In order to accommodate many subjects and a short
period of time, we will follow a schedule in
Language Arts.
● Monday: Vocabulary
● Tuesday: Grammar
● Wednesday - Friday: Reading
3. Mondays: Vocabulary
Vocabulary days work on a two week schedule.
Week A
● Take the quiz on the previous unit.
● Work on word boxes for new unit.
● Homework: Finish word boxes before next Monday

7. Tuesday: Grammar
● Students hear a 10 minutes mini-lesson about a
specific topic (right now we are covering
commas).
● Reinforcement of topic is done through:
1. Workbook pages
2. Multi-sensory games
● Tests and quizzes come at the end of a unit and
will always be on Tuesdays.
8. Wednesday- Friday: Reading
What Does Reading Class Look Like?
● Students hear a mini-lesson correlating with the unit currently
being studied.
● I model for them what I want them to do.
● Students practice the strategy independently or in partners
while reading from an independent book or from our class
book.
Q: What am I doing while they are reading?
A: I spend this time gathering precious data on your children's
reading habits, strengths, and needs. I use the data I collect to
design other units of study and to differentiate instruction so that
I can best meet the needs of each child.
9. Language Arts Assignments
The main assessments I use are:
● Writing done about Reading
● Reading Logs
● Projects/Tests at the end of a class book.
● Vocabulary Units pages
● Vocabulary quizzes/tests
● Grammar pages
● Grammar quizzes/tests
10. Language Arts Assignments
The students will also receive a participation
grade for Class work and a Participation grade
for Homework based solely on:
● completion of tasks
● effort made to participate in discussions
● quality of work (was their best attempt made)
11. Writing
Writing Class meets once a week on Wednesdays. I use a
workshop format which allows for most of our time to be spent
writing and conferencing.
● 10 minute mini-lesson
● 30 minutes to write
● 5 minutes to share writing with the class
Homework:
● Completing the writing started in class
● Online lessons will occasionally be assigned
12. Writing
Conferences
● I meet with individual children or small groups of children to
read and discuss the writing project. I give suggestions, but
the children are solely responsible for any changes they make
(or do not make).
● Because our time is so limited, students can contact me to
make an appointment before or after school to have a one on
one conference. Students can also email me a rough draft to
look over and comment on.
13. Writing Grades
A rubric will be used to grade assignments.
