The International Standard Name Identifier, or ISNI, was created to identify the millions of contributors to creative works and those active in their distribution, including researchers, inventors, writers, artists, visual creators, performers, producers, publishers, aggregators, and more in order to resolve the problem of name ambiguity in search and discovery. Now, Laura Dawson, Product Manager of Identifier Services at Bowker, will show us how ISNI has developed since the standard was first published in 2012. How is it managed? Who receives numbers? What impact has it had on publishing? And how can it be incorporated into current metadata management and distribution?

This deck is a training presentation for the 2017 IA Summit session on editing wikipedia. The session was a working edit-a-thon and the deck was presented as a guide for attendees to access as needed. Slide 2 of this deck has links to the event dashboard and a list of diversity groups at Wikipedia. I also gave a talk at this conference on diversity and inclusion programs at Wikipedia and referenced a number of active user groups related to supporting diversity in Wikipedia. Attendees at the edit-a-thon were encouraged to either work on information architecture related content selected in the event dashboard, or a diversity project of their choice. Much of the content in this deck is from the Art + Feminism training guide.

Presentation given at the European Media Management Association (EMMA) conference. Paris, February 13th and 14th, 2009. Paper abstract: Embedded publishing refers to the rising phenomenon of organisations and individuals who have started publications in support of their primary goal. This ranges from blogging politicians to professional football clubs offering web television to their fans. Their products, which are often offered to the audience free of charge, might pose a serious threat to incumbent media. Because these new publishers now are their own media outlet, they become less dependent of the traditional media for getting their messages across. This paper presents an analysis of eight Flemish and Dutch embedded publishers and conceptualises the results of this case study. Subsequently, it offers five strategies for especially the newspaper industry to deal with this new development.

Assignment 2: Decision-making and Philosophy Part II: Philosophy and the Community Whereas Part I focused on how you as an individual are impacted by a particular decision, Part II focuses on the individual as a member of a community. Thus, you will write an eight- to ten-page research paper based upon a current event/pressing social issue that is relevant to your community. You should address the following points in your analysis: Identify a social issue Identify news articles that present at least two different points-of-view on the issue Explain why the issue is relevant to your community Explain the nature of religious belief and identify the social norms and religious values/beliefs that inform the various perspectives on the issue Explain a relevant ethical theory Explain a relevant political theory Analyze how the chosen theories might approach the issue, including the relevant considerations and the ultimate conclusion reached. You will be expected to explain the relevant theories with support from the course texts (with particular emphasis placed on the primary texts) and from pre-approved secondary sources (including, but not limited to, the course text, online lectures, and a list of suggested online resources). .

They are particularly interested in stories which explain discourse creation in the inner-workings of under-discussed discourse communities that are unique, fascinating, influential, or worrisome. These could be interesting political or activist groups, fan groups, activity or gaming groups, identity-based groups, content-making groups, or other groups of people with unique interests, theories, or concerns. They might create discourse on a single platform or they might create it across multiple platforms. Your research should focus mostly on primary sources Links to an external site. (first-hand, direct accounts). Primary sources in this context are things written by the discourse community members for other members of the discourse community . While news articles or other secondary sources Links to an external site.
