- SPEAK UP AND REACH OUT -
As students, you may sometimes face problems in school, be it with your friends or with
your schoolwork. Here are some groups of people that you can turn to for help.
PARENTS
Parents are the people that are closest to you. So, when you face problems, you should
pour your hearts out to your parents. You should tell your parents about what is troubling
you. Your parents will be eager to help. They often offer advice, provide support and show
their understanding based on their own experiences.
SCHOOL COUNSELLORS
There are counselors in every school. Counselors are trained to help students overcome
their fears, anxieties and worries. They are qualified to give professional help to students
to deal with personal, social and even problems related to school work. Sometimes they
offer students career guidance. To do this, the counselors help students identify their
personalities and attributes so that the students can choose the right career path.
VOLUNTEERS IN HELP CENTRES
There are many volunteers who work in these help centres. They are trained to talk to
troubled students through phone cells. Some students prefer to talk about their problems to
someone they do not see face-to-face. One help centre that offers this service is
Befrienders.
PEER FACILITATORS
In school, there are peer facilitators who assist the counselors. These peer facilitators are
selected by students themselves, and they are interested to help other students. They are
given training on how to be a good listener. Some students find it easier to talk to someone
of their age group. They think that peers understand them better than adults especially

 use all the notes given
 elaborate on the notes to make it more interesting

Good morning to the Principal, teachers and fellowstudents. I am here on this ‘Prize
Giving Day’ to present a speech on “Howto be a successful student”. It takes a lot ofeffort on the
part ofthe student to be successful.
First and foremost, a student has to be very hardworking. As the saying goes, “No Pain,
No Gain”. A student has to work hard in all aspects ofhis or her life. Only then the student will
achieve the intended goals. Ifyou want to score A’s,then you will have to put in 4 to 5 hours of
study daily at home apart from studying in school.
In addition, being disciplined is very important. To be hardworking, you need to be
disciplined, in terms ofbeing punctual to school, being attentive in class, finishing up homework
and doing eraly preparation for tests and examinations. To be able to do all tehse, having positive
attitudes and values play important roles. The never give-up attitude should be instilled in you.
Only then success will come your way.
Besides, time management is important. A student has to study, doesschool work,
homework, faces examinations and also needs to cope with extra-curricular activities. It is also
equally important to spend leisure time with family and friends. So, the student has to manage his
time wisely. A personal timetable can be very useful.
Lastly, you should choose your friends wisely. Good, sensible friends will help you
succeed in studies.
19
Well, in short, to be a successful student, you need to work hard, be disciplined with
positive values and attitudes.Don’t forget! Time management is very important.

Here are some groups of people that you can turn to for help. PARENTS Parents are the people that are closest to you. So, when you face problems, you should pour your hearts out to your parents. You should tell your parents about what is troubling you. Your parents will be eager to help. They often offer advice, provide support and show their understanding based on their own experiences. SCHOOL COUNSELLORS There are counselors in every school. Counselors are trained to help students overcome their fears, anxieties and worries. They are qualified to give professional help to students to deal with personal, social and even problems related to school work. Sometimes they offer students career guidance. To do this, the counselors help students identify their personalities and attributes so that the students can choose the right career path. VOLUNTEERS IN HELP CENTRES There are many volunteers who work in these help centres. They are trained to talk to troubled students through phone cells. Some students prefer to talk about their problems to someone they do not see face-to-face. One help centre that offers this service is Befrienders. PEER FACILITATORS In school, there are peer facilitators who assist the counselors. These peer facilitators are selected by students themselves, and they are interested to help other students. They are given training on how to be a good listener. Some students find it easier to talk to someone of their age group.
