4. Background
• A simulation exercise is a practical
interactive learning process that tests the
knowledge, skill and capability of individuals in
an organization or other entity to respond to
a simulated event, situation.
• The One-Day Workshop on Organisational
Communication for Work Efficiency and
Effectiveness also provides knowledge and skills
in communication and organisational agility.
• The 7Cs of Communication are tools for agility in
organisations, including the Jigawa State
Polytechnic.
5. The Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse
• The Jigawa State Polytechnic is the main
hub for human resource development for
Jigawa State, Nigeria.
• It consists of faculty and administrative
staff engaged and charged with the
responsibilities of responding to the
challenges and opportunities from its
internal and external environments.
6. Additional Responsibilities
• In addition to routine planning, management,
training and development of the human
resource needs, the Institution also provides
intellectual support to government activities
and the larger society.
• By implication, the Polytechnic also requires the
continuous improvement in efficiency and
effectiveness in its service delivery through
organisational communication for organisational
agility.
8. Exercise Description
• The Exercise is triggered by a ‘routing announcement’
by the Rector, Jigawa State Polytechnic in which the
Jigawa State Government requires the Institution to
provide urgently needed human resource and
intellectual support to the 2020 policies on Education,
Agriculture and Community Policing.
• The Participants categorised into major
administrative, professional and technical groups are
to come up with solutions through brief internal
memos in response to the Rectors announcement.
• Each group is required to compile and present to the
Whole House a Brief of not more than one or two
paragraphs of not more than 500 words for
consideration by the Rector.
9. Exercise Procedure
• The various Groups of Workshop Participants are to
consider the issues as they relate to their areas of
specialisation, official function, and level of
responsibility within the Institution.
• A representative of the Group is to present the Group
contribution for immediate assessment by the Whole
House made up of the other Participants, and Senior
Executives of the Polytechnic.
• Points to watch include the selection of
communication tools, composition, degree of
responsibility and other standards consider as
appropriate.
