There is nothing better than a well rounded and team focused child,
and that is just what team building instills. Knowing that working as a
team and producing the best results possible is fully attainable when
children are taught to team build, many schools and activities around
the country are providing just that. The same goes for teens who are
looking to build management and leadership skills, team building
retreats and activities are hosted all over the world to help the youth of
today become great leaders.
In order to provide the very best indoor team building activities for kids
and teens, serious thought and planning must go into each one of the
activities. Since children have a wider learning range, but a smaller
attention span children specific activities have been made. Below are
some good examples of indoor team building activities for kids, or
teens.
Snowflakes: Give one sheet of paper to each person. Explain that you
want them to follow the directions you are about the give without
asking questions of you or their neighbors. They will work individually.
Give the following directions quickly, without clarifying exactly what
you mean:
1. Fold the paper in half and tear off a top corner.
2. Fold it in half again and tear off the top corner.
3. Fold it in half again and tear off the left corner.
4. Rotate the paper to the right three times and tear off the bottom
corner.

5. Fold it in half again and tear off the middle piece.
Instruct the group to unfold their papers and compare their snowflakes
with those around them. They will find that their snowflakes may or
may not match others.
Talent chairs: In a fashion similar to 'Musical Chairs,' teens discover
talents and qualities of others. The leader, who doesn't have a chair,
calls out a quality using a formatted statement. All participants who
possess this quality must get up from their chairs and find a different
chair to sit in. The leader will find a chair to sit in during this exchange.
Instead of losing their place in the group, the person who doesn't get a
chair becomes the next group leader and determines the next quality to
be discovered. This simple exercise is a fun way to discover each other
without putting anybody on the spot. With an open time frame, it can
be used as a short activity or it can be used as a lead-in to a more in-
depth discovery exercise.
Knowing which games and activities are best suited for the group you
have, will make the team building experience all the better. The older
the children are, the more range you can have with the games and
activities. If the children are young, you will have to create a high paced
game, which will stimulate for a long period of time. Teaching children
about the benefits of team work and cooperation is essential, and
building a good sense of trust and loyalty between partners is very
much needed in the world today.
