1. Question 1: In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
My magazine mainly focuses on mainstream conventions found in
most music magazines, which I found inspiration from more than one
magazine. These include Billboard, We love pop and top of the pops.
Although my magazine’s genre relates mostly to Top of the pops, so I
think I that would have the most impact on my creating of Smash Hits
Vibe using a variety of conventions. The main conventions being the
genre of chart music and also style of how it works. The conventions
that Top of the pops follow include a big bold title, a cover image with
eye contact, images of other artists and many subheadings. Top of
the pops magazine maintains a professional look and style this
shows the genre it supports. It is obvious from the fame of the
magazine company that the magazine’s style and look works well. I
wanted my magazine to be stylish and as professional as Top of the
pops, so I followed the same conventions as them which allowed my
magazine to stand out like Top of the Pops.
2. I used a large masthead ‘’Smash Hits Vibe’’ which is at the top of the
page. This convention is used in mostly all music magazines. My
masthead is positioned in the centre. In most music magazines the
masthead is usually at the left of the page or centred like mine. The size
of the masthead is 60 to make it stand out against the whole magazine
which is also the same on most music magazines.
I also used eye contact between the artist featured on the magazine
and the audience (readers) many magazines opt to do this as it creates a
relationship between the artist and the readers, which draws in the
readers. This also shows emotion by how the artist is focused on the
reader.
