1. BUENAS TARDES, NOSOTROS SOMOS ALUMNOS DE LA UNIVERSIDAD
TECNOLOGICA DE TORREON, ESTUDIAMOS EN LA CARRERA DE
PROCESOS INDUSTRIALES, NUESTRA PRESENTACION ES ACERCA DE
VARIABILIDAD Y LAS REGLAS PARA DETERMINAR LA VARIABILIDAD COMO
LO SON WESTRN ELECTRIC Y NELSON.
ASTRID: What is variability?
LEONARDO: Scattering measurements, also called measures of variability,
show the variability of a distribution, indicating by a number
if different variable scores are far from the median average.
LEONARDO: What are the characteristics?
ASTRID: The higher the value the greater variability, the smaller, more uniform will
be the median.
ASTRID: Variability is calculated as?
LEONARDO: Calculating the average of the deviations of the scores on the
arithmetic mean.
LEONARDO: Which are the types of variability?
ASTRID: There exist two types of variability that is perceived in this series of
changes, the identifiable variability and the random one.
ASTRID: Which is the relation between variability and quality?
LEONARDO: The quality of a product depends much on the variability. Limits of
variability are established, this to avoid you deform, faults or differences between a
product and other one. For what we might conclude that “to minor variability we will
have a better quality in the product or offered service”.
Western Electric rules are:
Rule 1
LEONARDO: Any single data point falls outside the 3σ limit from the centerline
(i.e., any point that falls outside Zone A, beyond either the upper or lower control
limit)
Regla 1
Rule 2
ASTRID: Two out of three consecutive points fall beyond the 2σ limit (in zone A or
beyond), on the same side of the centerline
Regla 2
Rule 3
LEONARDO: Four out of five consecutive points fall beyond the 1σ limit (in zone B
or beyond), on the same side of the centerline
3. Regla 3
Rule 4
ASTRID: Nine consecutive points fall on the same side of the centerline (in zone C
or beyond)
Regla 4
Nelson rules are:
Rule 1
ASTRID: One point is more than 3 standard deviations from the mean.
Regla 1
Rule 2
LEONARDO: Nine (or more) points in a row are on the same side of the mean.
Regla 2
Rule 3
ASTRID: Six (or more) points in a row are continually increasing (or decreasing).
Regla 3
decreciente).
Rule 4
ASTRID: Fourteen (or more) points in a row alternate in direction, increasing then
decreasing.
4. Regla 4
aumentando luego decreciente.
Rule 5
LEONARDO: Two (or three) out of three points in a row are more than 2 standard
deviations from the mean in the same direction.
Regla 5
Rule 6
ASTRID: Four (or five) out of five points in a row are more than 1 standard
deviation from the mean in the same direction.
Regla 6
Rule 7
LEONARDO: Fifteen points in a row are all within 1 standard deviation of the
mean on either side of the mean.
Regla 7
Rule 8
LEONARDO: Eight points in a row exist with none within 1 standard deviation of
the mean and the points are in both directions from the mean.
Regla 8
