SYNOPSIS NO: 1 READER TITLE: “In The Cause of Architecture” 1908
AUTHOR: Frank Lloyd Wright
Frank Lloyd Wright describes the importance of nature in architectural forms. It is in these fine art and
expression that he seeks every form of architecture - as he refers fine art back to nature. From his influence of
nature and organic architecture to interior spaces, where buildings grow easily with its sites and harmonizes with
its surroundings. As color and materials emphasize warm and nature-friendly tones, his designs' character has
a good chance of the increasing its value as it grows older. Therefore, it was why he was so focus on creating a
creation that would harmonize with its surroundings.
I agreeing with the point of how, and why Wright was disappointed in the state of American architecture.
Architecture had lack of spiritual integrity and were just merely following fashionable ‘styles’ & whatever that is
trending - there were no individuality in the buildings. Even these day, buildings have no character connection
with its surroundings. I agree to his belief, that by even creating small individual work of arts, we are able to form
our own art. Art of architecture should not be created from a picture, but from its spatial intentions or plans. The
idea of beauty should come from the facades and how it works with its surroundings - it should be able to show
its' individual form of characters. He believes that architecture is a form of art, and should be very subjective. He
believe that innovation is establish by many things, even by raw materials & colors that express its forms. Now
however, architectural designs lack individual designs and have no connections, nor do they possess any
expression or character. This is why nature is important for things to fit in with its form.
That is why Wright has many great examples and thoughts through organic architecture which relates to
its surrounding natural environment. It stays true to the ideal that individualism should be practice in our
profession as it creates its own work. The ‘style’ is similarly subjective to individuals as it is to practicing architects.
However, in urban environment, how does one correspond to the nature of its environment? Or, how does one
extract the organic elements? Possibly, in the future, the work shall grow more simple and expressive with fewer
lines, and forms. In its atmosphere, as elevating in its humble way as an urban architecture way. So that
architecture can be worthy in the high ranks, as a fine art.

SYNOPSIS NO: 2 READER TITLE: Architecture Where Desire Can Live
AUTHOR: Jacques Derrida
In Jacques Derrida work ‘Architecture Where Desire Can Live’ interviewed
by Eva Meyer. Derrida begins exploring the possibility of a way of thinking
‘belonging to the architectural moment’ with his considering of newly coined
architectural term de-construction’. He state that the current philosophical views on
de-construction has a major problematic as they associated de-construction with
the style of architecture. He said that these day the concept of de-construction
itself resembles an architectural metaphor. Which gave a negative attitude, as it is
like how it should be constructed. As how Derrida said de-constructive should be
procedure should be establishing itself, like an attempt to free oneself from rather
than imposed by history of philosophy.
Derrida state a very good point that the term of de-construction should be
explore beyond that just the physical and style, it can be look deeper into its terms
of culture, politics and other more important, and reasoning. So that the philosophy
can be analyses and questions conceptual pairs which are currently accepted as
self-evident and natural. As in how the self-reflection for my own, how I can
development my idea to connect with the work on de-construction, as what we are
doing now in term of context, it is an aspect to refers to the cultural, historical,
social , and political of a place. So that my construction can remain labyrinthine. As
how Derrida said, the issue is not to give up one point of view for the sake of
another, which would be the only one and absolute, but to see a diversity of
possible point of view.
That is why Derrida said there is nothing more architectural than de-
construction, but also nothing less architectural. So, that architectural thinking can
only be de-constructive in the following sense to visualize. As in the most
important of is it thought free oneself, if they hadn’t been institutionalized at some
precise point, as if they had no history, they will take for granted they restrict
thinking.

SYNOPSIS NO: 3 READER TITLE: The Eyes of the Skin
AUTHOR: Juhanu Pallasma
In the book The Eyes of the Skin, authored by Juhanu Pallasma. It
discussed about how Pallasma response to the subject of bias towards vision and
the suppression of the other senses, in how architecture was conceived, critiqued
and experienced. In the chapters of " The body in the Centre" and Multi-sensory",
he further elaborated how his view, and where he believed that senses were an
extension of the body where it acts as regulators of the transactions between the
body, mind and environment.
The way how Pallasma's express his senses are from the commonly known
mechanisms of body and mind into the complex realms of the mind and soul. He
also states that architectural work is not experienced as a collection of isolated
visual pictures, but in its fully embodies material and spiritual presence. This
seeking is to relate the external stimuli to the internal from memories, past to future
experiences to give users an existential experience. This can also relate to my
studio, is that I am creating a journey of an urbans capes. For example, since our
site is in Petaling Street, I had found out the context point where I identification it to
my vertical linear strip, and interlocking spaces, and in my design how I bring the
context in my interior spaces to express where how Gibson categorizes it as visual
system, auditory system, the taste-smell system, the basic-orienting system and
the haptic system. Other than trying to show how the past and present are, I am
also respecting by trying to capture all small detail of the site, it is similar to images
sensory that realm feed further imagery to rise to images of memory, imagination
and dream. That is how I am trying to express it in an architecture way, or for an
urbanism to able to experiences it, in my urban layout and community layout.
I believed that the way Pallasma believe in his senses are an extension of our
body and are regulators of the transaction between the surrounding environment,
the volumes, surface, textures and colors, and even the smell, the sounds into a
6. uniquely full experience, thus these experience users will be able to form a
platform where, and will create stop point for place-making in architecture and
urbanism.

SYNOPSIS NO: 4 READER TITLE: FROM ‘TOWARDS A CRITICAL REGIONALISM’
AUTHOR: KENNETH FRAMPTON
From ‘Towards a Critical Regionalism’: Six Points for an Architecture of Resistance’
discussing for no three and four s about critical thinking of an urban designer or an architect
towards a megalopolis crisis. Critical regionalism term in this book is a strategy to critically
accepting a universal civilization while maintaining culture. This mean that post-modern
architectural style was implement as a part of designing and at the same time it’s
considering about the typography around, for instance the sun path, context, and climate.
During megalopolis, the urban planning of the city form tends to separate pedestrian
through boundaries hence with no social activities happening around the site. This created
a placelessness of our modern environment, where the theoretical subject for urban design
was carried out to study the relationship between people and modern development.
Frampton has also stated that senses of space is an important experience for user to create
public realm.
Frampton stated that such critical thinking of architecture towards megalopolis where
are more complex compared to traditional life style. Critical does not determine that an
architecture should be vernacular architecture like back in the past, it’s about accepting a
new idea of industrialized technique and digitalization. Frampton state that the condition of
“dwelling and hence ultimately of being can only take place in a domain that is clearly
bounded, this means that the movement of the wind will circulate around the area, creating
cooler environment to work and stay in. Building these day was designed to be place in
everywhere, rather than an building can only be place for a specific site context. A city
should be design as a result of the combination for both universal and culture that direct
into self-consciousness of place so they can start to make place-making as in for urban
designer.
As urban planning of the area it’s important that to create an invitation design of a
building and create an interest to go outside. Due to these day industrialization and
9. digitalization has taken over the city which create people to stay indoor rather than outdoor
is an issue. Frampton had given us an idea of sustainable design of a building where the
exterior can be shown as modern but it’s vernacular in the inside.
