Students start using myON by:
Taking an interest inventory
myON uses student interests to recommend books that students will want to read.
INTEREST
The interest inventory is a way to match students with books that they want to read. Students indicate how interested they are in a variety of topics, and they’ll build their interests by adding more topics. Interests are refined through the student profile screen, and by rating books read. But, the interest inventory is only half of the book recommendation equation.
myON focuses students on their own reading goals. They immediately see their personal Lexile® level. They can work towards meeting reading goals both weekly and monthly. They can view goals such as time spent reading, books finished, and pages read. Each week/month they are prompted to improve stamina by going just a little bit farther than the week before. myON automatically sets individual goals based on the student’s previous week/month’s progress.
Also, this is where you note a big difference in the interface. For elementary students, they icon of the reader changes (starting with a moped and morphing into faster, brighter vehicles as they approach and surpass their goals.) The secondary interface is more sophisticated and streamlined, like the dashboard of a vehicle, with gold trophies when they meet and exceed their goals.
