The zero conditional
1.
2. ZERO CONDITIONAL
If you freeze water, it turns into ice.
Example:
If you freeze water, it turns into ice.
If I work too much, I get tired.
Si trabajo demasiado, me canso.
If I have time, I usually go to the movies.
Si tengo tiempo, generalmente voy al cine.
If she eats hamburgers, she gets an allergy.
Si ella come hamburguesas, le da alergia.
If they come here, they always bring a present.
3. This conditional is used when the result will always happen. So, if water reaches 100
degrees, it always boils. It's a fact. I'm talking in general, not about one particular
situation. The result of the 'if clause' is always the main clause.
For example: If water reaches 100 degrees, it boils. (It is always true, there can't be a
different result sometimes). If I eat peanuts, I am sick. (This is true only for me,
maybe, not for everyone, but it's still true that I'm sick every time I eat peanuts)
4. If people eat too much, they get fat.
If you touch a fire, you get burned.
People die if they don't eat.
You get water if you mix hydrogen and
oxygen.
Snakes bite if they are scared
If babies are hungry, they cry
Si la gente come demasiado, ellos
engordan.
Si tocas fuego, te quemas.
La gente se muere si no comen.
Se obtiene el agua si se mezcla
hidrógeno y oxígeno.
Las serpientes muerden si tienen miedo
Si los bebés tienen hambre, lloran.
