Welcome to the 2003 Heartsounds Masquerade Ball!Welcome to the 2003 Heartsounds Masquerade Ball!
This Years event entertainment is provided by "Le Masquerade" featuring "Cirque Le Masque", an exciting troupe that
will wow you with their cabaret style entertainment and acrobatic showmanship. We’re excited this year to have our
annual event at the brand new Poppy Pavilion at the new Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. We have fabulous silent and
live auction items for you to bid on, delicious food to eat, and great music for you to dance to.
The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley will reach a milestone made possible only through the care and contribu-
tions of people like you. Funding is now in place to begin the design and construction of the new Children’s Center
facility. This important first step is now a reality.
We are immensely proud to have reached this point and equally thankful to those who brought us here. To date, sup-
porters have raised approximately $500,000. Thanks to the City of Lancaster, who donated the land for our new build-
ing and helped us secure a low-interest loan from the federal government, we are moving forward with the construction
of a new 15,000 square foot facility.
In the last decade, the level of our professional services dedicated to child abuse in our area has expanded consider-
ably. While child abuse continues to be a problem, the resources committed to eliminate this scourge have also grown.
Today, the Children’s Center is able to provide the following programs to those most vulnerable among us.
New Medi-Cal mental health service
School readiness program
Family preservation service
Parent-child interactive therapy treatment program
Forensic interviewing
The Antelope Valley’s commitment to child abuse may soon sport a new face, but the real testament is to you, the car-
ing supporter. Stone and mortar may be costly, but our contributors and supporters are priceless. To all of you who
have shared our passion…thank you.
Sincerely,
Debbie Grant
Executive Director

The Children's Center of the Antelope
Valley is a private non-profit community
based agency designed to deal with the
problem of child abuse. The Children's
Center believes that all children deserve
a safe place to live.
The Center's mission is to protect the
children of the Antelope Valley from
abuse through prevention, treatment,
and education.
The Center operates entirely on grants
and the financial donations of the
generous people in our community.

Child Abuse Treatment Program
The Center's Child Abuse Treatment program is an outpatient treatment program
designed for children who have been traumatized by physical, emotional, and
sexual abuse. The Center has long been recognized for its specialized treatment of
sexually abused children and it has now expanded its treatment program to
encompass all aspects of Child Abuse.
Family Preservation
The Antelope Valley Family Preservation Network was
established with the Children's Center of the Antelope
Valley as the lead network agency. The Family
Preservation Program ia an innovative partnership
between the Children's Center and three Los Angeles
County Departments - Children and Family Services
(DCFS), Mental Health, and the Probation Department.
This program is a multidisciplinary program involving a
network of community agencies to provide and
coordinate an array of in-home and out-of-home services to
families where physical child abuse and neglect are
present. The ultimate goal is making the home safe for
children and preventing child out-of-home placements.
Home Based Program
The Home Based Program provides two in-home services in
the Antelope Valley. The first component of the Home Based
Program is school readiness for children ages 3-5 and the
second component is designed to strengthen the attachment
and bonding between parent and child and is called "Love
and Play". The Home Based Program is open to all families
who live in the Antelope Valley. The target population is
children that are abused, neglected or at risk for abuse or
neglect. The program also targets children who only speak
Spanish, those at risk for special education, and those
children living in rural areas not accessible to public
transportation or preschool education.

Hiroki Morinoue Etching
This beautifully framed etching by artist Hiroki Morinoue is titled "Land Space XLII" and is a limited editions etch-
ing by publisher Editions Limited. It is number 40 of an edition of 125. Size: 20 X 39
Hiroki Morinoue is a native of Holualoa, Hawai'i and holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the California
College of Arts and Crafts. Morinoue has worked successfully in a variety of media including mixed media painting,
prints, ceramics and sculpture. In all of his works there is a compelling sense of place--of the shoreline, rocks, lava
flows and skies of the Big Island. He has long been a patient observer of nature and, in particular, of its rhythms,
cycles and patterns. He has shown his works in galleries across the mainland, and his art may also be seen in the State
Federation for Culture and the Arts Collection, The Contemporary Museum, The Honolulu Academy of Arts
Collection and The National Park's Collection.

Friends of the Children
Hand Painted Signature Tiles
You have risen to the challenge…the challenge to fight child abuse! Your attendance here tonight con-
firms your dedication to the children of the Antelope Valley and the
philosophy that it should not hurt to be a child!
The founders of The Children's Center of the Antelope Valley shared this dream, and for the last 14 years
they have fought to materialize that dream by expanding the programs that treat and prevent child abuse.
Our client base has grown to over 2000 children and
families…and…we are out of room!
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of hundreds of staff and community members, we are moving!
Our new building will be located in Lancaster and will facilitate treatment, prevention and education pro-
grams that will enable us to continue this honorable fight.
Tonight, you can be a part of history. A wall of tiles painted by our children in Art Therapy will be
proudly displayed in our new lobby, and you can purchase and sign one of these tiles. Your support
will be evident to all who enter the doors of The Children's Center.
The largest tiles in this grid are 18" x 18" and will occupy a special place in the tile design.
We have (4) of these tiles available tonight as our last auction item. We invite you to be the successful
bidder on one of these tiles, and include your family or business
name as a testament of your support in this valiant fight.
Thank you, and good luck!
An Extra Special Thanks to

This Years event entertainment is provided by "Le Masquerade" featuring "Cirque Le Masque", an exciting troupe that will wow you with their cabaret style entertainment and acrobatic showmanship. We’re excited this year to have our annual event at the brand new Poppy Pavilion at the new Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. We have fabulous silent and live auction items for you to bid on, delicious food to eat, and great music for you to dance to. The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley will reach a milestone made possible only through the care and contribu- tions of people like you. Funding is now in place to begin the design and construction of the new Children’s Center facility. This important first step is now a reality. We are immensely proud to have reached this point and equally thankful to those who brought us here. To date, sup- porters have raised approximately $500,000. Thanks to the City of Lancaster, who donated the land for our new build- ing and helped us secure a low-interest loan from the federal government, we are moving forward with the construction of a new 15,000 square foot facility. In the last decade, the level of our professional services dedicated to child abuse in our area has expanded consider- ably. While child abuse continues to be a problem, the resources committed to eliminate this scourge have also grown. Today, the Children’s Center is able to provide the following programs to those most vulnerable among us. New Medi-Cal mental health service School readiness program Family preservation service Parent-child interactive therapy treatment program Forensic interviewing The Antelope Valley’s commitment to child abuse may soon sport a new face, but the real testament is to you, the car- ing supporter. Stone and mortar may be costly, but our contributors and supporters are priceless. To all of you who have shared our passion…thank you. Sincerely, Debbie Grant Executive Director

  • 13. PAGE 11 Touching Young Lives, One child at a time. Child Abuse Treatment Program The Center's Child Abuse Treatment program is an outpatient treatment program designed for children who have been traumatized by physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The Center has long been recognized for its specialized treatment of sexually abused children and it has now expanded its treatment program to encompass all aspects of Child Abuse. Family Preservation The Antelope Valley Family Preservation Network was established with the Children's Center of the Antelope Valley as the lead network agency. The Family Preservation Program ia an innovative partnership between the Children's Center and three Los Angeles County Departments - Children and Family Services (DCFS), Mental Health, and the Probation Department. This program is a multidisciplinary program involving a network of community agencies to provide and coordinate an array of in-home and out-of-home services to families where physical child abuse and neglect are present. The ultimate goal is making the home safe for children and preventing child out-of-home placements. Home Based Program The Home Based Program provides two in-home services in the Antelope Valley. The first component of the Home Based Program is school readiness for children ages 3-5 and the second component is designed to strengthen the attachment and bonding between parent and child and is called "Love and Play". The Home Based Program is open to all families who live in the Antelope Valley. The target population is children that are abused, neglected or at risk for abuse or neglect. The program also targets children who only speak Spanish, those at risk for special education, and those children living in rural areas not accessible to public transportation or preschool education.
