Oasis India Feb’14 till
date
Director- Finance, India
I took a sabbatical from the corporate space to help set up a social enterprise with my spouse. The focus of
this enterprise is to help build strong community relationships among the urban youth and address social
evils that plague the youth of today. We facilitate several mentoring and counselling relationships towards
empowering the youth and engage with corporates to initiate social change.
Towards the end of 2013, I had the opportunity to work as a consultant with an NGO, Oasis India, which
works to empower marginalized and excluded communities in society. Oasis works in communities in
Mumbai, Chennai and India and has close to 100 employees spread across the country. Oasis is currently in
10 countries across the globe and is headquartered in the United Kingdom.
Being in line with my long term objective to give back to the society, I took up the opportunity from Feb
2014.
As Director- Finance and as part of the National Leadership Team (NLT) of Oasis India, I have direct
responsibility to deliver the Finance objectives ensuring smooth operation of Finance functions, ensuring
that Oasis India is statutorily compliant, providing leadership to the overall Finance strategy and the vision of
Oasis India. The role involves frequent inter action with Executive Director, Project Directors and Programme
Managers, reviewing programmes and devising intervention plans as needed. In addition, I was instrumental
2. in developing a local fund raising strategy for Oasis India, since traditionally the emphasis was on foreign
sources of funding. The focus of the team was to build a sustainable local fundraising base based on the
goodwill Oasis India enjoys within the country, having successfully operated in communities across India for
more than 18 years.
