5. PLE Definition continues…..
One also may define a PLE as a system (but
some argue that it is more of a concept only)
that helps learners take control of and manage
their own learning. It includes support for
learners to set their own learning goals, manage
their learning; managing both content and
process, communicate with others in the process
of learning, and thereby achieve learning goals.
26. Web 2.0 Defined….
The term Web 2.0 was coined in 1999 to describe web sites that use
technology beyond the static pages of earlier web sites. It is closely
associated with Tim O'Reilly because of the O'Reilly Media Web
2.0 conference which was held in late 2004. Although Web 2.0
suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to
an update to any technical specification, but rather to cumulative
changes in the ways software developers and end-users use the
Web.
A Web 2.0 site may allow users to interact and collaborate with
each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user-generated
content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where people
are limited to the passive viewing of content. Examples of Web 2.0
include social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites,
hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies.

28. Present day technological advancements have given a
new meaning to the structure of knowledge
management. The social web or web 2.0 as it is
commonly referred to as nowadays, is a new domain
of knowledge sharing and management that
was nonexistent a few decades ago. These modern
inclinations towards knowledge sharing and
management on a social perspective have become
increasingly popular as it has lasting effects that are
crucial to an organization’s business environment.
29. Web 2.0 in education
Web 2.0 technologies provide teachers with new ways to engage students, and
even allow student participation on a global level. However, children raised
exclusively in the era of new media technologies are less patient with activities
such as completion of worksheets and classroom lectures. Decreased
participation in a traditional classroom may be due to better feedback received
online.
"The Web has the potential to radically change what we assume about teaching
and learning, and it presents us with important questions to ponder: What
needs to change about our curriculum when our students have the ability to
reach audiences far beyond our classroom walls?" Web 2.0 tools are needed in
the classroom to prepare both students and teachers for the shift in learning
that Collins and Halverson describe.
According to Collins and Halverson, the self-publishing aspects as well as the
speed with which their work becomes available for consumption allows
teachers to give students the control they need over their learning. This control
is the preparation students will need to be successful as learning expands
beyond the classroom.

31. ADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL BOOKMARKING
ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible anywhere. Not restricted on
any physical system.
HUMAN INTERPLAY: Customers enabled to share web
sources of their choice.
TRUST: Improves gross sales of a business. This is done
because the suggestion of a website via social bookmarking,
by web marketers, is likely to be trusted by consumers.
AFFILIATE SALES: Affiliate links on social bookmarking
websites are used by individuals
SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION: Social bookmarking
results in links that make a webpage go up higher in the rating
on a Search Engine’s Optimized techniques.
