teaching the class with an awareness of the needs, interests, learning style and cultural
background of the students
developing a good teacher presence and manner, including voice and delivery
establishing rapport and ensuring all students are involved
Ability to demonstrate awareness of language skills and systems by:
adjusting and grading their own language to meet the level and needs of the learners
identifying errors and correcting oral and written language appropriately
providing clear contexts and a communicative focus for language
providing accurate and appropriate models of the language
clarifying relevant aspects of meaning, form and phonology to an appropriate depth
showing awareness of differences in formality
providing practice of language items
helping learners understand reading and listening texts
helping develop oral fluency and writing skills
Ability to demonstrate classroom teaching skills by:
arranging and varying the classroom layout appropriately
setting up whole class and group activities appropriate to the lesson type
selecting appropriate teaching techniques in relation to the content of the lesson
managing the learning process effectively so that lesson aims are achieved
making use of materials, resources and technical aids so that they enhance learning
giving clear directions to tasks and activities
using questions effectively both to elicit and to check understanding
providing learners with appropriate feedback on tasks and activities
maintaining an appropriate pace in relation to materials, activities and tasks
monitoring learners appropriately
Ability to demonstrate professionalism by:
maintaining up-to-date, orderly records and completing plans and assignments on time
noting their own strengths and weaknesses in different teaching situations
participating in and responding to feedback
working constructively with colleagues in the planning of teaching practice sessions
working independently and taking responsibility where appropriate
