5. Energy: definition and its units
The energy is the ability of a body to make
different changes in themselves or in others.
Energy, like other kinds of properties, can be
measured, because it’s a magnitude. Its units are
the Joule, the Hertz and the Calory.
6. La energía puede manifestarse de
múltiples formas en la naturaleza,
pudiendo transformarse unas en
otras. Entre todas estas formas de
energía se encuentran:
E. Eléctrica - E. Química
Formas de energía - E. Hidráulica
E. Nuclear
E. Mareomotriz - E. Potencial
7. Forms of energy
Energy can appear in different ways in nature, and they can transform
into other types of energy. Some examples of differents forms of
energy are:
Electrical energy
Nuclear energy
Tidial power
Mechanical energy
Thermal energy
Chemical energy
Hydraulic energy
Potential energy
renovables y no renovables.
9. Energy sources
There are two types of energy sources: renewable and
non-renewable. Renewable souces never run out. Some
examples of renewable energy sources could be: the
Sun, the wind, the biomass…
But there is another kind of energy source: non-
renewable. They can run out, if we don’t use them
carefully. Some examples of non-renewable energy
sources could be: the oil, the natural gas, the uranium…
Some of them can pollute, or they can be dangerous,
such as uranium (it’s radioactive, so it must be used
carefully).
11. Generation of electricity
It consists on transforming any kind of energy (wind
energy, nuclear energy…) into electricity. Electricity is
generated in power plants or hydroelectric,
transforming potential energy into electrical energy.
Electrical installations have six main elements: the
power plant, transformers, transmission lines,
substations where the signal voltage decreases to match
the distribution lines, distribution lines and
transformers that reduce the voltage to the value used
by consumers.
12. Impacto ambiental.
Algunas
son contaminantes, como la nuclear o el
petróleo. Otras, no son contaminantes, pero
sí modifican el paisaje, al menos
visualmente, como las placas solares o los
aerogeneradores.
13. Environmental impact
Most of energy sources produce alterations in
the landscape. Some of them are polluting, such
as nuclear energy or oil. Others aren't polluting,
but produce modifications in the landscape, like
solar panels or wind turbines.

15. Transport and distribution
The Network of Electricity Transmission is the part of the Power Supply
System that carries the electricity generated by power plants to the
consumption points and over long distances.
A transport network uses voltages with an approximated value of 220
kilowatts or between 400 and 500, called “high voltage”.
It’s formed by conducting elements (usually copper, steel or aluminium
wires) and support elements, which are called “pylons”).
