To hope
Significa esperar en el sentido de tener esperanza de algo.
● I hope to win the lotery tomorrow
Espero ganar la lotería mañana
● We hope to see her soon
Esperamos verla pronto
● She hopes to get a boyfriend this year
Ella espera conseguir novio este año
To expect
Significa esperar cuando se tiene la seguridad de que algo va a ocurrir y generalmente se
expresa la razón o el fundamento.
● I expect to win the competition because I’m the best
Espero ganar la competencia porque soy el mejor
● She is expecting a baby
Ella está esperando un bebé
● They expect to learn because they like to study
Ellos esperan aprender ya que les gusta estudiar
To wait
Significa esperar cuando se trata de un tiempo indeterminado.
● Wait a moment please
Espere un momento por favor
● I don’t like to wait
No me gusta esperar
To wait for
Significa esperar por alguien, por algo o por un tiempo indeterminado.
● I wait for my girlfriend every day
Espero a mi novio todos los días
● They wait for the school bus
