training of immigrants in the automotive sector
The project aims to develop a training methodology and materials to facilitate the integration of immigrants in the automotive sector through training in technical and linguistic skills.
The project involves partners from Spain, Italy, Germany and UK and will test the training materials developed with immigrant trainees in the different countries.
The final results will include a handbook with the training methodology and materials to be used by other training centres working with immigrant populations.
SEATRAINING promotes the social and labour integration of immigrants through vocational training adapted to the needs of the automotive industry.

• Consultation mechanisms at local and regional level are the most effective ways to maintain a
dialogue between immigrants, hosting communities, public institutions and other stakeholders.
• The project ROUTES aims at setting up transnational cooperation networks to exchange best
practices in the field of immigrants’ integration. The project contributes to increase the
collaboration between public entities, NGOs and immigrant associations, by identifying the most
effective policy approaches to guarantee an appropriate response to integration needs.
• The project has analysed good practices concerning integration policies produced by local
governments and valuable experiences generated by NGOs in 12 European regions. ROUTES
will create a framework for a better integration of immigrants and a set of recommendations for
the implementation of the most valuable findings to different contexts.
• ROUTES is an EU funded project under the INTI programme for preparatory actions promoting
the integration of people who are not citizens of the European Union.
• The final conference will take place on October the 28th
at the Committee of the Regions, in
Brussels.
• Les Halles St Géry will host an exhibition of pictures from all the participant regions from the 4th
to
the 31st
December 2008.

1. General Objectives:
• Research and monitoring of different institutions and actors working in
the area of migration policies;
• Development of multi-stakeholders trans-national co-operation and
networking between research centers, institutions, public authorities and
representatives of the civil society, NGOs, including immigrant
associations, operating in the area of migration policies;
• Exchange and transfer of information, lessons learned and good
practices concerning the integration of immigrants; identification and
development of a set of communications informing all partners involved
about common European integration policies;
• Development of consultation mechanisms between institutional and civil
actors at both the local and regional level;
• Identification of the role and experience of NGOs and immigrants’
associations;
• Improvement of knowledge and information in the field of regional and
local immigrants participatory practices in the decision making process;
• More developed information on services provided by different institutions
and actors to facilitate immigrants’ integration processes;

• Identification and definition of the role of NGOs and immigrant
associations within the broader integration process;
• Increasing the involvement of immigrant associations and NGOs in the
integration process;
• Definition of a model based on a set of recommendations on the good
practices identified and the Study Reports developed by the project in
order to facilitate the integration of immigrants;
• Test the concrete capacity of the integration model and
recommendations in supporting the various actors involved in improving
the effectiveness of integration;
• Definition of standard quality assurance procedures to assess the quality
of services provided to immigrants to contribute to the definition of a
European level standard;

implementation of the policy programme about the immigrants’

Guidelines and recommendations for the improvement of the policy
programme about the immigrants’ integration;

operate within the Regional Governments concerned;
Structure of immigrant association landscape:
• Classification and data-processing of different typologies of
associations, provenience, missions and roles;
• Data processing about the number of beneficiaries and their
segmentation.

RESULTS:
Study Report: the Analysis and Collection of good
practices are making in the main sectors of:
– Housing: is a fundamental component of citizenship as it is also
witnessed by immigration laws in some major EU Member States.
– Education: the level of education is of crucial importance for immigrants
not just to find a position in the labour market, but also as an important
moment of socialization with the hosting culture and practices.
– Employment : is a crucial and complex problem in immigration, that
spans from the over-representation of immigrants at lower skills jobs,
where the level of local labour force supply is scarce, to work
discrimination.
– Sanitary field: practices as regards the dissemination of knowledge of
the basic types of sanitary assistance provided by the regional
government.
– Social participation and security: volunteering is a form of social
participation in which immigrants play an important role as active
citizens in supporting the inclusion of people that belong to their same
community.

RESULTS:
Study report collecting the good practices about:
- role of the organizations concerned and experiences at regional
and national level: how the NGO operates for the immigrants
integration and how the immigrants’ associations are organised for
their integration in different European regions;
- how immigrant associations, NGO s and the Research Centre for
Immigration are involved in the decision making process at the
regional or national level.
Evaluation of the benefits, limits and constraints of the identified
policies and practices, potential complementarities, and conditions
for their adoption;
Definition of monitoring processes to be associated to the identified
good practices to support future adopters to assess their quality
and effectiveness.

RESULTS:
A Report where a model to support the immigrant’s integration is
outlined. This model will stress the following aspects:
- what are the key issues that are to be managed for a better
integration of the immigrant;
- for each key issue, which are the good practices that can be
adopted and related constraints;
- for each good practice, which are the recommendations for their
effective implementation;
- to improve implementation, a set of measurements are
suggested and monitoring guidelines;
- definition of standard quality assurance procedures to assess the
quality of services provided to immigrants to contribute to the
definition of a European level standard.

Creation of a local round table with immigrants’ associations,
