Our objectives
WHAT:
• Light Pollution Initiatives (LPIs)
– Create a self-sustainable LPI incubation platform, from
LPI inception to funding (marketplace + crowdfunding), data acquisition, data
management, data and result sharing, etc.
• Citizen-based sensor data acquisition: photometers
• Games with a purpose and incentives that motivate citizens to participate
WHY:
• No need to argue why here at ALAN2016
• Threats of the excess of light thrown by humans to the sky:
– The view of our universe.
– An adverse impact on our environment and economy
• Energy wasted
• Health of hundreds of species endangered
• …

How did we get here?
● Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation
(H2020-ICT-10-2015)
● Harness the collaborative power of ICT networks (networks of people, of
knowledge, of sensors) to create collective and individual awareness about
the multiple sustainability threats which our society is facing nowadays at
social, environmental and political levels. The resulting collective intelligence
will lead to better informed decision-making processes and empower citizens,
through participation and interaction, to adopt more sustainable individual and
collective behaviours and lifestyles

What can you (and we) do?
• Propose your own LPI
– For year 2 we want to select up to 10 new LPIs
• Send us a 1-page description of your idea
– Deadline: November 30th, 2016
– Notification: December 21st, 2016
– Selected LPIs will start getting support from January 2017
• What can we offer?
– Small travel budget (approx. 4K€ per LPI)
– Technical support (data acquisition, games with a purpose,
data management, data sharing, etc.)
– Visibility through STARS4ALL website and events
