The author and others cooked lasagna and meatballs to deliver to local fire stations 6 and 11 to thank the firefighters for their service to the community. They organized supplies and permission from the fire department. At the author's house, they made the sauce, meatballs, and assembled the lasagna while others prepared desserts. They delivered the food around 5pm, and the firefighters were grateful for the home cooked meal.
2. Project
• My project was to cook for the firefighters.
• We decided to make lasagna and meatballs for
the firefighters at a selected station.
• We cooked for firefighters because a lot of
times, they aren’t able to get home cooked
meals when they are on the run a lot. This was
our way of saying thanks for helping out the
whole community.
3. Organizing
The first thing we had to do was organize the
supplies and the stations.
• We had to have designated people to get
certain supplies that we would need.
• We needed to obtain permission from the fire
department to bring food over to any of the
stations.
4. The Stations
We decided to cook for stations 6 and 11.
• Station 6 was chosen because they saved
Arielle when she was younger.
• Station 11 was chosen because it is nearby my
grandmother’s house.
5. Cooking
• Cooking started at my house early in the
morning.
• The sauce was made by my mom and I before
any of the other people had gotten to our
house.
6. Cooking
• Once everyone had arrived, we began cooking
the lasagna and meatballs.
• First, we made the meatballs.
• Second, we assembled the lasagna.
• Lastly, we put it all in the oven and waited for
it to cook.
7. Dessert Team
• Instead of everyone filling up my house, we
had a few people making desserts.
• While we made the main course, the dessert
team made desserts for the firefighters to
enjoy after their meal.
8. Delivering
• We delivered the food at a little after 5pm.
• After delivering the food, the firefighters were
really grateful.
• A firefighter at station 11 even offered us a
tour of the fire station and told us how it was
like doing what he does.
9. How We Used Critical Thinking
We had to use critical thinking to make sure
everything was on time.
• We had to make sure that we had the lasagna
made early enough so that we could get there
on time.
• We also had to use critical thinking to
coordinate with the dessert team which was
at another house.
