The training programme was named SHINE after the world president of Junior Chamber International, Shine T. Baskaran. Junior Chamber International is an NGO which is involved in youth service.
The programme’s uniqueness lay in the fact that it simultaneously reached a large number of students of Class 11 and 12 and college students in 200 institutions in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Of this, 80 institutions were colleges. The day-long course was taught by 350 trainers who came from different regions in South India.
It also reached many government schools in rural areas, he said. The programme was also attended by a representative of the ASSIST World Records Research Foundation for a possible entry into its records.
