Lazarnov asserts that inefficient learning is caused by psychological barriers that limit our ability to learn. He proposes a method called Desuggestpedia to accelerate the learning process by reducing these barriers. Desuggestpedia involves creating a relaxed, comfortable environment where students feel free to take on new identities and are encouraged through positive reinforcement and gentle error correction. The teacher acts as a trusted authority to easily guide students through receptive and activation phases of learning with an emphasis on communication skills over formal testing.
The document provides an overview of execution plans in SQL Server and what aspects to examine. It discusses the key stages in the execution process including parsing, optimization, and execution. Specific operators like nested loops, hash matches, and parallelism are also covered. The document is intended to help beginners understand execution plans and what aspects provide useful information for troubleshooting query performance issues.
Avatar had a huge budget of $237 million distributed by 20th Century Fox and grossed over $2.7 billion globally due to its groundbreaking effects and storyline. In contrast, Paranormal Activity had a tiny $15,000 budget distributed by Paramount Pictures but still made $193 million, showing that low-budget films can find large audiences through suspense and tension without needing extensive marketing.
Total Physical Response (TPR) is a language teaching method that focuses on listening comprehension over speaking. It is based on the idea that listening precedes speaking in first language acquisition. Using TPR, instructors give students commands that require physical actions to associate words and meanings. Students observe and then imitate the actions. The goal is to create a low-anxiety environment where students can learn through enjoyable physical activities before speaking is introduced.
This document discusses options for higher education for those in public safety careers. It outlines the benefits of pursuing further education in areas like management, human resources, and strategic planning to develop skills needed for career advancement beyond front-line roles. The document reviews different degree options and factors to consider when choosing a school, such as cost, location, accreditation, and opportunities to earn credits based on prior experience and training. It emphasizes that many public safety professionals may already have credits that can be applied toward a degree through options like credit for life experience, certification exams, and articulation agreements between institutions.
The document discusses the history and principles of the Direct Method approach to teaching foreign languages. It was developed in the 1880s as an alternative to the Grammar Translation Method that did not require translation or explanation in the native language. Key principles included using only the target language, avoiding grammar explanations, focusing on speaking and listening, and learning vocabulary through real-world objects. While it emphasized communication, critics argued it did not reflect how native languages are learned and was difficult to implement widely.

The document summarizes a meteorological investigation of a helicopter crash near Kahramanmaras, Turkey on March 25, 2009 that killed 6 people. Weather conditions at the time favored the development of supercooled drizzle drops within light winds and stable but weakly unstable air. Evidence suggests cloud top temperatures were between -10°C and -15°C, and the helicopter was operating near the tops of stratiform clouds at an elevation of around 3.1km above sea level. Orographic lifting likely caused low-level clouds, fog and surface snow at the mountainous crash site due to the air cooling and reaching saturation as it rose over the terrain.
This unit overview summarizes a 20-lesson unit that will have students read and analyze Sophocles' play Oedipus the King. Students will practice close reading and annotation skills to examine how the play's central idea of fate emerges through plot details. There will be two assessments: a mid-unit assessment where students analyze the relationship between prophecy and Oedipus' actions, and an end-of-unit assessment where students explore how the play develops the conflict between Oedipus' guilt and innocence through evidence-based writing.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?ellielathrope
This document analyzes how a media product represents the social group of "New Affluent Workers" through its front cover, contents, and double page spread. The front cover features a youthful image representing the group's emerging culture interests. The contents page includes references to DJs and musicians of interest to the target demographic. The dark, mysterious double page spread conveys the dance/house music genre in a style that would appeal to the group's tastes. Overall, the document examines design choices made to attract New Affluent Workers, who enjoy social and cultural activities but not highbrow culture.
The document discusses ways to improve various design elements of a school magazine. It suggests that the cutting out of the feature photograph could be improved using selection tools to remove white bits. It also recommends adding more images and implementing a strict color scheme to improve the magazine's style. For the masthead, it proposes using a bolder, more colorful font to make it stand out more. The document provides additional tips for enhancing other areas like the plug text, contents page, and use of images throughout.
The three article titles indicate that the Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is still commonly used in Arab English language teaching, despite known criticisms of the approach. GTM traditionally focused on translating between languages, memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules, with an emphasis on reading and writing over communication. However, GTM has been criticized for low student motivation and frustration, overlooking the communicative nature of language, and limited application in multilingual classrooms. The document discusses the history, objectives, principles, techniques and criticisms of GTM through references to previous literature on the topic.
The document discusses task-based language teaching (TBLT). It defines tasks as goal-oriented activities that focus on meaning and involve real-life outcomes. TBLT is based on principles like the communication principle, which states that communicative activities promote learning, and the task principle, which emphasizes that real-world tasks also promote learning. The document outlines techniques for TBLT like information-gap, opinion-gap, and reasoning-gap tasks and poses questions for discussion about adopting TBLT and comparing it to other language teaching methods.
The Audio-Lingual Method was a language teaching method influenced by behaviorist psychology that claimed to transform language teaching into a science. It was based on intensive oral drilling of basic language patterns and contrastive analysis to predict and address learning difficulties. Language learning was viewed as habit formation through stimulus-response conditioning techniques like repetition drills. While it was a dominant method in the 1950-60s, it declined in popularity due to criticism of its behaviorist underpinnings and rejection of the idea that language learning is imitation rather than creative use of internalized competence.
The document discusses the Silent Way language teaching method developed by C. Gattegno in the 1960s. It was a response to criticisms of behaviorism and structuralism, instead promoting an active, discovery-based approach to learning. The Silent Way method emphasizes students producing language from the start, with the teacher acting as a facilitator and staying silent as much as possible. Students are expected to learn through trial and error and helping each other, becoming autonomous learners.
Community Language Learning (CLL) is a humanistic approach to language teaching developed by Charles Curran that focuses on the emotional and social aspects of learning. It views students as whole people and the teacher as a counselor. CLL emphasizes that learning is a personal and creative process, and that students learn at different paces using various strategies. It promotes a relaxed environment where students feel secure taking risks, sees the native language as part of the learning process, and prefers group work and cooperation over competition.
This document discusses key concepts related to income tax in the Philippines. It defines income as profit, gains, or cash flows received within a specified period. Income can come from employment, investments, or business operations. The Philippines uses both a global and schedular system for taxing income. Under the global system, all categories of income are taxed the same. The schedular system taxes different income types differently. Individuals are taxed based on their residency and source of income. Corporations are taxed differently depending on if they are domestic or foreign. The goals of income tax include generating government revenue and offsetting other taxes in a progressive manner.
Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video from 1983 was the first world premiere video aired on MTV. Directed by John Landis, the narrative video makes references to horror films and holds the record for most copies sold. Eminem's 1999 "My Name Is" video prominently featured himself to increase his star image and brand, with the lyrics and video illustrating each other. PSY's 2012 "Gangnam Style" performance-based video helped convey his brand image through various depictions of himself, and it was the first video to reach 1 billion YouTube views showing how music videos are now viewed.
