RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
5. EVS Solar, LLC 5
In 2011, the Federal Council and Parliament decided that
Switzerland is to withdraw from the use of nuclear
energy on a step-by-step basis. The existing five nuclear
power plants are to be decommissioned when they reach the
end of their safe service life, and will not be replaced by new
ones..
Essentially, the Federal Council's new strategy focuses on the
consistent exploitation of the existing energy efficiency
potentials and on the balanced use of the potentials of
hydropower and new renewable energy sources.
During the other European Countries will decrease
their compensation for electricity fed into the grid,
the compensation in Switzerland will be guaranteed over 20
years through the government.

The EVS will be responsible for the whole planning
and the project development.
They negotiate with the owners of the roofs and real
estates, negotiate the terms and conclude the
contracts, file requests, gather permissions and take
control of the technical and commercial operations.
TASK SHARING
The installation of the plants will be conducted by
EVS in cooperation with the company ET Solar which
in addition is the manufacturer and distributor of
turnkey solar plants systems (without the mounting
system).
The billing including the refunds are handled directly
by the Swissgrid on the 1st day every month.

In order to obtain a building license for a solar plant a simple letter
from the solar plant operator informing the community about his
project will do.
Especially according to the Swiss law of area planning in Art. 18a
there is no need for “sufficient adapted solar plants” to obtain a
building license in building and farming areas according to Art. 22
paragraph 1.

In Switzerland you can choose between two different feed-in tariffs
for solar plants; the one-off grant and the feed-in remuneration at
cost . Which feed-in tariff to choose depends on the size of the plant

Photovoltaic (PV) is the name of a method of
converting solar energy into direct current electricity using
semiconducting materials that exhibit the photovoltaic
effect.
Solar cells produce direct current electricity
from sun light which can be used for grid connected
power generation. In this case an inverter is required to
convert the DC to AC before it then can be feed in the
public grid.

Most solar modules are currently produced from
crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells made of multicrystalline
and monocrystalline silicon.
In 2013, crystalline silicon accounted for more than 90
percent of worldwide PV production, while the rest of the
overall market is made up of thin-film technologies using
cadmium telluride, CIGS and amorphous silicon.
A crystalline PV module is made up of several major
components including (from bottom to top):

Photovoltaic mounting systems are used to fix solar panels on surfaces like the ground, flat roofs,
pitched roof, or building facades.
In this project there will only be used mounting systems for flat roofs.
Hence, the solar modules are mounted with a slope of 20 degrees on the flat roof. This
inclination of panel surface provides an optimal orientation to the sun and in addition it leads to
self-cleaning effects of the modules.
The company CreoTecc is the supplier of these mounting systems with its mounting system
Ventecc³.

A solar inverter converts the variable direct current (DC) output of a
photovoltaic (PV) solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current
(AC) that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local,
off-grid electrical network. It is a critical balance of system (BOS)–
component in a photovoltaic system, allowing the use of ordinary AC-
powered equipment. Solar power inverters have special functions
adapted for use with photovoltaic arrays, including maximum power
point tracking and anti-islanding protection.
Solar inverters use maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to
get the maximum possible power from the PV array.
In this project the inverter Power One AURORA, in particular the series
PVI-Central 250/300 will be used. Here follows some technical details:

Photovoltaic is an important technology for
the sustainable energy supply in the future.
Solar power has enormous potential: by 2050
it would be possible to meet around 20 percent
of the current level of electricity demand in
Switzerland through the use of photovoltaic
systems..
However, the opinion differ vastly regarding the
potential of photovoltaic capacity in Switzerland.

E.g. the association Swiss Cleantech suggests to calculate the total potential
of photovoltaic on behalf of the available area in the Swiss building stock as
well as a moderate but definitive development of photovoltaic.
In addition to the annually growth of new photovoltaic areas also the
mean life of the photovoltaic plants and the continuous improvement of
technology and efficiency need to be taken into consideration as
determinants of the annually solar power production.

The well established photovoltaic industry generates
according to Swissolar an annually revenue of
approximately 1 Billion Franken in 2013.
The annual solar irradiance in Switzerland is appr. 1,100
kWh/m². The system effectiveness transforming solar
power into AC is between 5 and 19% depending on the
components used.
The annual solar irradiance is even higher than in Germany
for instance. In the Alps the solar irradiation even reach a
level of 1,600 kWh/m² which is comparable to Spanish
conditions.
The following picture shows the annual average amount of
current per 1 kWp PV module power installed in
Switzerland. Depending on the local climate conditions it
is possible to generate between 1000 and 1200 kWh from
the solar plants of today's standard in Switzerland (if the
angle of the sun relative to the panel is optimal).

MARKET OVERVIEW
21. EVS Solar, LLC 21
Foreign General contractors
National General contractors
Project developers
Private Investors
Due to the attractiveness of the Swiss photovoltaic market resulting from long guaranteed feed-in tariffs
and lower asset costs the demand of suitable ground and roof areas is very high. Hence, there is a matter of
urgency regarding this project since the reservation of the designated roof areas may be passed over to
other participants. The general rule is, first come first serve.
The market participants include national and foreign general contractors, project developers as well as
private investors. Nonetheless, it is very difficult to estimate an exact number of market participants in this
case.

A special marketing and sales strategy is not
relevant since the electric current produced will
be fed-in the national grid. Thus special
promotional measures are not necessary. The
price of electricity is determined by the feed-in
tariff at cost and guaranteed for the next 20
years.

PRICE DESIGN
The calculation of the mixed tariff of the different sites is shown exemplary below using the site with the project number
5127:
The calculation involves the size of the plant, date of operation and the plant category (built-on, integrated). In the case of
project 5127 the size of the plant is 160 kW, the date of operation is 1st of August and it is a built-in plant. The project is
paid by feed-in tariff at cost. Using the chart in chapter 2.6 gives the following calculation:
According to the chart the first 30 kWp is fed-in with 0.265 CHF/kWh, in the area between 30 to 100 kWp with
0.220 CHF/kWp and in the area of 100 to 160 kWp with 0.213 CHF/kWp. Hence, the mixed tariff of this
plant calculates as follows:
