4. ABOUT BLAISE PASCAL
• He was born on June 19, 1623 in Clermont,
France.
• In 1626 his mother passed away when he
was three years old.
• In 1631, the family moved to Paris.
• Pascal was a child prodigy educated by his
father, who was a local judge in tax court.
• His health was never good and he died on
August 19, 1662 at the age of 39.
5. CONTRIBUTION OF BLAISE PASCAL
• Pascal defined a convenient tabular
demonstration for binomial coefficients, called
Pascal's triangle.
• He expresses the numbers in the triangle by
recursion. Blaise Pascal invented his numerical
wheel calculator called the PASCALINE.
• His latest scientific work was on cycloids. In 1658,
he solved some problems that occupied many
mathematicians, in particular related to the area
and volume created by a cycloid rotation around
its axis.
6. APPLICATION OF BLAISE PASCAL’s LAW
• Pascal's law or the principle of transmission of fluid-
pressure is a principle in FLUID MECHANICS that
states that pressure exerted anywhere in a confined
incompressible fluid is transmitted equally in all
directions throughout the fluid such that the pressure
variations (initial differences) remain the same.
• Atmospheric pressure
• The gaseous envelope surrounding the Earth is called
earth's atmosphere, extending to a few kilometres
above the surface. The pressure exerted by the
atmosphere is called atmospheric pressure.
7. ACHIEVEMENTS OF BLAISE PASCAL
• Pascal had 40 inventions including the
PASCALINE, which is an achievement in itself.
• The PASCALINE is a numerical wheel
calculator which after 8 years he improved it.
The Pascaline was made out of clock gears and
levers, and could solve basic mathematical
problems like addition & subtraction.
8. ACHIEVEMENTS OF BLAISE PASCAL
• Some of his inventions are :
1) He invented the syringe.
2) He invented the hydraulic press.
3) He helped with the study of the Pascal law of
pressure.
4) He helped with the theory of probability.
5) He also helped with the study of the cycloid (this
is the last thing he did before his death.
6) He invented the Pascal Triangle.
7) The 1st digital calculator.
