Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world.
“Preparing to Live As God Intended
A Wake Up Call"
“Advent is a season for waking up to all the ways Christ comes to us.
Yes, the themes of Advent help us celebrate and commemorate his first
coming in the Incarnation. They encourage us to anticipate his second
coming in glory—of course! But there is also such a thing as the third
coming of Christ: that is, all the ways in which Jesus comes to us now,
bringing light for our darkness, peace for our turmoil, hope for our
fear.”
Ruth Haley Barton
Whoever loves another person has fulfilled the Law. The
commandments, Don't commit adultery, don't murder, don't steal, don't
desire what others have, and any other commandments are all summed
up in one word: You must love your neighbor as yourself. Love doesn't
do anything wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is what fulfills the
Law.
As you do all this, you know what time it is. The hour has already come
for you to wake up from your sleep. Now our salvation is nearer than
when we first had faith. The night is almost over, and the day is near.
So let's get rid of the actions that belong to the darkness and put on the
2. weapons of light. Let’s behave appropriately as people who live in the
day, not in partying and getting drunk, not in sleeping around and
obscene behavior, not in fighting and obsession. Instead, dress yourself
with the Lord Jesus Christ, and don't plan to indulge your selfish
desires.
Romans 13:8-14
If we live a life that is seeking only self-centered goals, we are not living
in the expectation of the One who is coming again...
Jesus Christ.
TODAY is the time to live for Christ!!
When we cease to live for ourselves, and instead live for God, we
discover the amazing irony that by losing ourselves in Jesus, we become
fully and wholly a complete child of God.
Advent is the time for a wake up!! To prepare to live as God
Intended for us to live!!
Questions for Personal or Group Reflection:
1. Reflect on Romans 13:10 that says, “love is what fulfills the
Law.” What does that mean to you?
2. What does it mean that God is calling you to “wake up” from your
sleep? How is He doing that in your life?
3. Have you thought about the “end times” and what that means to
you right now? How does it affect your daily life?
4. Reflecting on Romans 13:13 are you “behaving appropriately as
people who live in the day...? What does that mean to you? Where do
you need God’s strength to change how you’re living?
5.
How are you “dressing yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ”?
