Mardi Gras is the
name of the carnival

Louisiana and Mobile,
Alabama ( USA ) .

translates directly into Spanish as " fat
Tuesday" , ( like the Spanish Maundy
Thursday ) but is traditionally known as "
Mardi Gras ". Held the day before Ash
Wednesday.

Costumes and masks are a long
time tradition on Mardi Gras
Day.
People spend all year making
costumes that glorify heroes,

poke fun at customs,
traditions, or current events.
Masking is permitted only on
Mardi Gras Day, and masks
must be removed at dark.
