One can argue that life on earth is a chemical accident or it was created by some supernatural force or it was brought in by a meteor with simple bacterial forms. To prove that there is a possibility of life forming from simple chemicals available at that time, Miller and Urey conducted an experiment with some basic molecules such as water, methane and ammonia in a set up with high power electrodes simulating lightning conditions to provide energy for further reactions. After cooling the reaction products they noticed simple organic molecules including amino acids were formed from this set up. This proved the point that monomer scould be formed under the reducing atmosphere present in the early periods of earth.
Formation of simple organic molecules is one step closer to forming macromolecules. Once simple macromolecules are formed, then they can aggregate to form simple structures as shown above called protobionts on the left. The liposomes on the right are formed by the aggregation of lipids in aqueous situation. However this far from being able to replicate with precision and proper genetic information.

These cyanobacteria are the earliest forms of photosynthetic organisms that released oxygen in to the atmosphere allowing the possibilities for multicellular organisms to evolve from simple unicellular organisms.

The concept of catalytic RNA provides the possibility of abiotic synthesis of short strands of RNA molecules and their replication.
