Este documento describe los bailes típicos de Austria, incluyendo el Ländler, Schuhplattler y el vals vienés. El Ländler y el Schuhplattler son bailes folclóricos al compás de tres cuartos que a menudo se bailan en parejas durante fiestas tradicionales, mientras usan trajes regionales. El vals vienés, uno de los bailes más famosos de Austria, es un baile de salón rotatorio bailado en parejas a un ritmo rápido de 180 beats por minuto.

1. Hoy quiero contaros algo sobrelos bailes más típicos de Austria. Voy a empezar
con un baile que sellama “Ländler”.
Ländler
El “Ländler” es un baile folclórico al compás de tres cuartos. Lo bailan en
parejas. Duranteel baile los bailadores dan palmadas, triscan y algunas veces
cantan a la tirolesa, que es un tipo de canto muy especial.
El segundo es el “Schuhplattler”
Schuhplattler
La palabra “Schuhplattler” significa“golpean los zapatos”. Estebaile se
desarrolló del “Ländler”, por eso también es al compás de tres cuartos. Es un
baile muy divertido y alegre. La gente puede bailarlo en parejas o sola. Esta
danza es muy popular porquelos bailadores saltan, dan palmadas, triscan y
siempre les golpean sus piernas y sus pies.
Muchas veces los austríacos bailan “Ländler” y “Schuhplattler” en fiestas
folclóricas, como el primero de mayo o el “Kirtag”, que es un tipo de feria muy
famosa en Austria. Cuando la gente los baila, lleva el trajeregional de Austria:
la “Lederhosn, que signifíca“pantalones de cuero” y la “Dirndl”, que es un
vestido con un delantal.
And now, at last but of coursenot least, likely the mostfamous dance of
Austria: The VienneseWaltz.
Viennese Waltz
The Viennese waltz, which is called “Wiener Waltzer” in German belongs to the
genre of ballroomdance. Itis danced in pairs and with about 180 beats per
minute it´s one of the fastestdances of the world. The Viennese Waltz is a
rotary dance, so the man spins the woman around and around all the time. In
order not to get dizzy they sometimes have to change the direction of the
rotation. Skilled dancers often incorporatefigures such as underarmturns or
side sways.
In Austria it is an important tradition for teenagers to take dancing classes in
special dance schools at the age of 16. There they learn to dance the most
popular dances, for example “Cha-Cha”, “Quickstep” and, of course“Wiener

2. Waltzer”. At the end of the dancing classes there is a great prom, wherethe
adolescents show their families and friends what they havelearned. That´s an
important part of growing up, especially for girls, becausein the past this prom
was a ritual, which lead girls from child- to adulthood.
Vienna Opera Ball
The Vienna Opera Ball is of coursethe most famous promin Austria and well-
known nearly all over the world. Every year it takes place on the Thursday
preceding Ash Wednesday in the building of the Vienna State Opera. The Opera
Ball is together with the New Year Concert one of the highlights in Austria.
Every year about 5000 visitors frommany differentcountries come to this
prom. At the beginning nearly 180 pairs of dancers open the dance floor.
