2. The genre of my magazine will be Rock. This is an interesting
genre because within Rock there are also different categories
such as; Indie rock, alternative, soft/hard rock etc. This means
that my magazine will attract fans of the “Rock” genre. Many
people will like different aspects of rock so by choosing rock as
genre. I address a wide audience because I shall include all the
categories of rock.
These types of magazines are popular within the magazine
market so I know that this magazine will do well. It will appeal
to more people than a magazine that is just focused on one
genre so this means my magazine will attract more people and
gain a higher readership/circulation figure. The magazine itself
will also have more variation within its pages. One page may be
about Indie rock whilst another about hard rock. This makes
the magazine more interesting, it won’t just all be about the
same category of rock which could bore the audience. Having
this mix-match approach keeps the magazine interesting as the
reader won’t know what is coming next.
I can also include festival advertisement that focuses on
this genre of music such as Download Festival. This will
interest the readers as the festival focuses on all aspects
of rock just like the magazine so therefore I know that
they will be interested in this event. I can also include
new upcoming artists who play rock. My younger
audience will be interested to hear about new talent
within the genre they love.

3. Working Title
The name of my Rock magazine will be “Amplified!”. I have
chosen this name as this is terminology which my audience
will understand. And anyone who see’s the magazine will
instantly know what the genre of the magazine is before even
looking inside it. An amplifier makes the music louder and
therefore this word is suitable for my magazine name
because my audience themselves are bold, loud and stand
out from the crowd.
Like Kerrang! I have added an exclamation mark at the end of
the word. This is for emphasis and connotes the loudness and
the energy. It is also eye-catching and anyone looking at the
magazine will instantly notice this. This means more people
will be drawn to my magazine.
As the word "Amplified!” is quite long, I could shorten this to
“Amplify!”. This would still mean the same thing but instead
the masthead will be short and catchy and the overall effect
would be the same. Which one I choose will depend on what
looks better on my final cover page.

4. Frequencyand cover
priceThe publication will be published monthly. This is
appropriate because my audience is a younger
audience so if it is published monthly it will be more
affordable for them. From my survey I found that
monthly was the most popular option so my choice fits
with my results.
The quality of the magazine will also be better meaning
that the images included will be of a better quality and
the band interviews will be more in depth. The
magazine itself will have a better feel because the
pages will be thicker and more professional than a
weekly magazine. The audience will want to buy it
because as it isn’t produced weekly the magazine will
be filled with more information than it would if it was
produced weekly. They will also want to buy it because
of it’s professional look.
As for the price of the magazine, this will be £2.80. This
price is realistic as because it is published monthly we
can afford to go slightly higher than a weekly magazine.
The readers won’t mind spending more as it is
only a monthly thing. It is also acceptable
because the quality of the magazine is better.
The price I have chosen is also suitable for the
audience’s age range. A younger audience will
be able to afford this magazine monthly.
5. Attitude:
How the magazine is presented
to the audience
The attitude of my magazine will reflect my
audience, The audience are into rock music and are
young. Typically, they can be seen as rebellious so
my magazine will reflect that by being bold and by
standing out. I will show this by creating bold
headlines with bright colours. The colour scheme I
will use is vibrant so this reflects my audiences bold
personalities. However, the background colour will
be dark to make the words and images contrast and
stand out on the page. Linking to the idea that my
audience stand out from the crowd.
Each page will look slightly different. One page
possibly being black and white which will link to the
idea of old school rock. Showing that this genre has
being going for generations. Other pages will consist
of large images and very little writing whereas
others will include a fair amount of writing with
smaller images dotted across the page. This keeps
each page interesting and reflects the different
genres included inside the magazine, It also reflects
how each individual reader is unique and different.
Each reader will like different categories of rock.
The magazine will also be presented by having images from
different places. Some shot during a concert to make the
reader feel like they are in the moment and some taken in
everyday places to show the artists everyday life so the
audience can really connected with the artist.
I will also use drop capitals in my magazine articles. This
will be a bold letter which will stand out from the smaller
writing as well as this i will include pull quotes which will
entice the audience to read a certain article. The pull quote
will be written in Italic font, this will stand out from the
normal font used on the rest of the page.
6. Styleand contentMy magazine will include; Interviews with the artists,
Upcoming events, album reviews and a gallery section.
By including different features I make the magazine
more appealing to my audience. It won’t just be a
magazine including interviews; which we already
know is a popular aspect of a music magazine.
The gallery section is interesting it will be a double
page spread. Within this section there will be a variety
of band images taken by their professional
photographers. These images will be from a concert or
behind stage with their crew etc. Underneath each
image there will be a sentence explaining it to the
audience. On the right hand page there will be images
of the bands with fans. These fans will be chosen by
the magazine to meet their favourite band.
This will happen because there will be a page which
will include the competition. The reader will have to
write down their names and which band they would
like to see with a short explanation why. Then they
will cut out the page and send it to the postal address
which will be included on the page.
This is unlike any other magazine. And will draw in the
readers attention because they will want to meet their
idols. Because this is only a monthly magazine and only 3
people can be chosen they will buy the magazine because
this is a rare occurrence and they will want to win the prize.
As well as this, upcoming events will be included and
festivals advertised for the genre the magazine is made for-
Rock.
7. The Amplified! Reader
Amelia, 17, has a bold personality and lives for the moment when
her favourite artist enters the stage. She loves music and listens to it
day in day out. There isn’t a second where she isn’t involved in the
musical world. Music is more important to her than anything else.
She enjoys accessing music through different mediums. Through
Spotify she listens to new rock music and through CDs and LPs she
listens to older Rock. When she is not listening to music she enjoys
planning and buying tickets to events. She loves concerts and
festivals and cannot survive a year without going to at least one
music event. She spends more on music than anything else. As a
student all her money goes towards her love for music and also
towards clothes keeping in with the newest trends. This goes for her
music taste too. She loves to hear new music and is always the first
to of heard a new track or band. She recommends songs and artists
to all her peers to spread good music everywhere. This is why she
especially enjoys reading up on album reviews so she can see what
the wider world think and to find more albums to love.

use are to your left. These
are vibrant colours.

This will be the text I write my articles
with
“This will be the pull quote font” e went to the concert
10. Flat plan
My flat plan shows each individual page of
my magazine this helps me see how my
magazine will be set out. I have split my
magazine into 4 sections; Intros and
regulars, features, technology special and
reviews. The yellow box is shown and this
signifies an advert. The adverts link to the
magazine because they will be about music:
new headphones a festival etc. The layout is
easy to figure out and is organised, this is
what my audience wanted. For the features
section you can see that the type of rock
interview varies between pages meaning the
audience won’t get bored.
