- Spain is in the south of Europe. It forms the Iberian peninsula, plus Canary and Balearic Islands together with the two cities of Ceuta and Melilla in North Africa. It limits the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal to the west; the Cantabrian Sea, France and Andorra to the north and it is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and south. The central plateau is over 600 meters above sea level, there are many mountains ranges (as Pyrenees, Picos de Europa or Sierra Nevada), many rivers and the coast line spreads many kilometers, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
- Spain is a parliamentary monarchy, Felipe the 6th is our king. The government is based upon our Constitution and it is a democratic Kingdom. The president of Spain is Pedro Sánchez. Spain is divided into 17 autonomous regions.
- Many peoples have lived in the Iberian Peninsula since ancient times, the Phoenicians, the Iberians, the Celts, the Romans or the Visigoths. In the year 711, the Arabs arrived in Spain and remained there until 1492, when the Catholic kings expelled them from the peninsula. In 1492 Cristopher Columbus discovered América. . Spain is well known by accepting other cultures and living together. Arabs, Jews, Christians living together.
- In Spain there are 17 regions and people speak different official languages, Galician in the northwest, Catalan in the east, Basque in the north, and Spanish in all the country.
- Spain has some great mountains, I am going to comment on the Ranking of the highest ones. They are the Teide in the Canary Islands, which is a volcano, the Mulhacen in Granada, and the Aneto in Pyrenees. There are several ski resorts in Spain.
- The best climate in Spain is in Andalusia for its sunny days, one of the best beaches in Spain is Mazagon in Huelva. The most touristic cities are Madrid, Barcelona and Seville. In this slide you can see some of the Spanish cities, such as Seville, Valencia and Madrid.
- Some of the Spanish foods are the potato omelette, gazpacho, cachopo and the paella. The paella has a lot of ingredients some are rice, chicken, flat green bean, extra virgin olive oil, salt mussels…The gazpacho has a lot of vegetables and the cachopo is breaded steak but very big and with more ingredients. We have lunch at 3 and we have dinner about 10:30. And a very common thing that we do in Spain is to sleep for a while after eating, more or less from 3:30 to 5.
- Some Spanish inventions are the submarine, the wheel chair, the wire cab, the helicopter, the lolly pop “ChupaChups”, the Mop and the Table Football. The Table Football is a board game based on football.
- We have the leadership on the production of oil, wine and also ham, also they have the best quality of the world. Spain is the largest wine exporter in the world. We possess one of the best health system in the world. We are leaders in donations and transplants of organs. We are also leaders in renewable energies and modern transport systems.
- Spanish fashion design is an important economic activity. You can see shops of these brands all over the world. Some of the most famous spanish brands are the luxury brand Balenciaga, the international Zara and also Desigual, Bershka and Stradivarius.
- Spain is a country of talented people and great artists throughout all its history. Some of the most famous artists are the writer Cervantes, the painters Picasso and Dali, the actress Blanca Suárez and the singers Rosalía and Alejandro Sanz.
- The two most practiced sports in Spain are football and basketball. The most famous athletes are the football players, Joaquín and Iniesta, the basketball player Pau Gasol, the driver Fernando Alonso and the tennis player Rafa Nadal. The olympics in 1992 were one of the most loved by all the people.
- Andalusia is our region. It is located in the South. We have eight provinces, we are form Seville, the capital. Those are one of the most iconic pictures of our region. We also talk a specific dialect of spanish that shortens some words when talking.
- We have coast line almost in all the provinces, with colder qwater on the Atlantic Ocean and warmer on the Mediterranean Sea. Some of the beaches have white sand. Probably the most important point could be the Gibraltar Strait which has a crowded ship traffic. Gibraltar belongs to The UK since 1713 after the Utrecht Treaty.
- Doñana is a Spanish protected natural area located in the Andalusian provinces of Huelva, Sevilla and Cadiz. The Doñana Natural Area is considered one of the most important protected natural areas in Europe. A key crossroads for migratory bird routes between the African and European continents, it is also the last refuge for numerous endangered species.
- The Costa del Sol is a long beach area within Malaga province. It has a very mild weather during nearly all the year. Besides it offers a wide range of leisure activities. Gata’s Cape spreads along the East of Andalusia, specifically in Almeria Province. It has an important biodiversity. It is a natural park. It has a breathtaking landscape.
- Granada has some well-known places such as the Alhambra, which was built between the tenth and the fourteenth century ,or Sierra Nevada, the highest peak in the hole Iberian Peninsula and a ski resort. In Cordoba you can not miss the Mezquita, that was built in the eighth century while the muslims ruled.
- Seville is situated in the south of Spain and its the capital of Andalusia. There are so many beautiful places where you can walk around there like the Giralda, Plaza de España or Torre del Oro.
- In Spring, the two main events in Seville are La Semana Santa and La Feria La Semana Santa is a Christian celebration that remembers the lasts days of Jesus on Earth (The passion, death, and resurrection). All this happens in one week, where las hermandades take the Saints out to the streets. The typical dishes in Semana Santa are las torrijas and los pestiños. La Feria is an event that brings many citizens together enjoying, drinking and dancing. You can also find women dressed as “flamencas”. The main food in Feria are los caracoles and el rebujito.
- To sum up, you all have learnt about Spanish culture and we hope you have liked it as much as we do! We love to learn and improve our knowledge, that is the reason why we are here today. However, since we are amazed to be here in Airola, we motivate you to visit our country, specially Seville, where we hope all the hospitality received this week, will be given to you in return.
