Este documento describe los verbos irregulares en español. Explica que la mayoría de los verbos siguen reglas para cambiar las terminaciones según la persona, pero los verbos irregulares no siguen estas reglas. Luego lista algunos verbos irregulares comunes como ser, estar, tener, ir, querer, saber, jugar y sentir, y explica cómo cambia la forma de cada verbo para cada persona.

2. The problem
Most verbs in Spanish follow a specific set of rules. For the Yo form, you
drop the ending and o, for the Tú form you drop the “r” and add an “s”.
For the el/ella/usted form you just drop the “r”. For nosotros you drop
the r and add “mos”. And for ellos/ellas/ustedes, you drop the “r” and
add an “n”.
This all works fine, but irregular verbs don’t follow these rules.

• Yo soy
• Tú eres
• él es
• Ellos son

• In english we also have the same irregular verb with ”to be”: I am,
you/we/they are, he is.

• Estar is easy because only the yo form is irregular.
• Yo estoy

• Tener is tricky because it is irregular, the Yo form is irregular in a
different way, and the nosotros form is not irregular at all.

• Nosotros tenemos

7. Ir
• Ir is similar to ser because it completely changes the verb.
• Yo voy
• Tú vas
• él va
• Ellos van
• Nosotros vamos

8. Querer
• Querer is not to hard because although irregular, it follows a patern.

• Yo quiero
• Tu quieres
• él quiere
• Ellos quieren
• But nosotros is regular: Nosotros queremos.

9. Saber
• With saber only the yo form is irregular
• You would think it would be yo sabo, but really it is yo sé

10. Jugar
• Jugar is similar to querer because the stem changes for every form
except for nosotros. (U->UE)
• Yo juego (one reason this verb was changed is because its regular
form would be “jugo” which means juice)
• Tu juegas
• él juega
• Ellos juegan
• Nosotros jugamos

11. Sentir
• Yo siento
• Tu sientes
• él siente
• Ellos sienten
• Nosotros sentimos
• Much like other previous verbs the nosotros form is regular but for
the other forms the rule is as follows: E->IE
