We can all agree that 2020 has
not been the best year in the world.
As it comes to an end we hope that
what we experienced during this past
year also ends and that everything
returns to “normal”. As a New Year
approaches, we realize that things
will never fully return to how things
were, before the pandemic changed
the world. However, we should not
view 2021 with negativity but rather
welcome the year with a high dose
of positivity and rebirth. December is
considered one of the best months of
the year because it is a time when we
focus on what unites us and, on our
desires, to overcome adversity. We
are full of hope and want to be better
spouses, sons, daughters, parents,
workers and citizens. Let’s unite and
convert our desires into reality in 2021
and beyond!
Let’s all be cheerful as we count our
blessings! Remember that if you are
happy, you will make others happy
too.

MEJORANDO NUESTRAS VIDAS BEST LIFE
La regla de los cuatro regalos implica reformular
qué tipo de obsequios van a seleccionarse, dándole
un significado pedagógico a cada uno de ellos.
Así, no se trata de acceder a los cuatro presentes
solicitados (o impuestos) por el niño, sino que estos
deben ajustarse a las siguientes premisas:
1. Lo práctico
Algo que pueda llevar y que le sea útil, como una
prenda de ropa o un complemento.
2. Lo necesario
Algo que realmente necesite, como por ejemplo
un objeto que utilice para su desempeño escolar o
extraescolar.
3. Lo que se quiere
Algo que desee, siempre cuando sea adecuado para
la edad del menor. En este caso, es recomendable
pedir al niño que realice dos o tres propuestas y el
adulto escoja de entre ellas la que más se ajuste a
las circunstancias familiares. Un apunte importante
puede ser considerar el comportamiento y el
esfuerzo (y no exclusivamente las calificaciones
académicas finales) del hijo tanto en el ámbito
escolar como en el ámbito familiar y social.
4. Lo que educa
Libros y/o bien experiencias educativas y
compartidas en familia, como ejemplo una
excursión cultural, una visita al museo, etc. En
cuanto a los libros, parece positivo que sean ellos
quiénes tengan prioridad para decidir qué título
seleccionar, de tal manera que se vea aumentada la
receptividad del niño ante este tipo de regalo.

Aunque el ponche de ron navideño solo
lo tomamos una vez al año, vale la pena esperar.
Los ingredientes cambian según la receta,
pero los elementos básicos que necesitas son:
un toque de Navidad, un poco de ron y luego
beberlo de golpe para notar cómo se calienta
la garganta hasta que llega al estómago.
2. Bombardino
Mímate después de una dura jornada y tómate
un bombardino.
El bombardino es una de las bebidas preferidas
de los italianos. Tiene una parte de brandy y
otra de ponche de huevo o advocaat. Es la

4. Spiced mulled wine
If you want to give a Nordic touch to this
Christmas, ask for a glogg!
One of the most popular drinks this season
is hot spiced wine. The idea is to heat the red
wine and mix it with fruits such as orange,

Marcado por una combinación cultural, religiosa, gastronómica y musical, Puerto Rico se
destaca por festejar la Navidad más larga del mundo, desde el Día de Acción de Gracias a
finales de noviembre, hasta las Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián la tercera semana de enero. Para
esta festividad, los residentes de la “Isla del Encanto” consumen pavo, la misma ave con la que los
peregrinos dieron gracias y que también los norteamericanos digieren este día en noviembre. Los
boricuas, no obstante, acompañan el pavo en la mesa con diversos tipos de arroz, batatas y otras
ensaladas, como de papa, granos, coditos o verde (lechuga y tomate). Los postres típicos boricuas
se confeccionan a base de algún tipo de harina “fácil de obtener y conservar”, así como el coco,
y por ello se crearon el arroz con dulce, el tembleque, el dulce de coco, el majarete de maíz o de
arroz, el bienmesabe y el coquito (ron con leche de coco).

Marked by a combination of culture, religion, gastronomy and music, Puerto Rico stands out
for celebrating the longest Christmas in the world. It runs from Thanksgiving Day at the end
of November, to the Holidays of San Sebastián Street the third week of January. For this festivity,
the residents of the “Island of Enchantment” consume turkey, the same bird with which the
pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving. Puerto Ricans, however, accompany the turkey with
various types of rice, sweet potatoes and other salads, such as potato salad, whole grains salad,
pasta(elbows) salad or greens (lettuce and tomato) salad. Typical Puerto Rican desserts are made
from some type of “easy to obtain and preserve” flour, as well as coconut , and for this reason the
rice with sweet, the tembleque, the coconut sweet, the majarete of corn or rice, the bienmesabe
and the coquito (rum with coconut milk) were created
