As an artist and an engineer I was hired as a product manager by a prestigious Swiss watch company. My job was to develop a high hand mechanical collection for men. Usually, for women, we just make a smaller version. We just add diamonds, a pink strap of a small heart somewhere and voilà! But the women is not a smaller version of a men with a pink dress and a small heart. Even if diamonds are a girl’s best friend.
She asked me: What makes you who you are?
What do you like to do, where is your unique talent?
Find the very one that makes you vibrate.
Then I developed The Unique Selling Propositions
Based on the answers I received. Women said to me:
- I could buy such a watch if I have the feeling that it is Just made for me, if it carries a message of love, and if it is telling my story
- If the values of the company are in accordance with mine: They respect female issues, care for the nature, etc.
- I would like the watch to be a legacy to my daughter, with the stones, from my mother’s ring, the bracelet from my grand-mother or any other heritage
- More of all my watch must be unique, distinctive, Unlike any other, Just like me
Wanting to meet the wishes of women, I asked them:
What is the value of time for you?
Very few answered that Time is money. The answer was more pragmatic:
Time flees too quickly, we never have enough time, I would like more time for myself.
If we spend time together, we spend a piece of our life together. Ultimately, time is life.
Then I asked them: How would you like your life, your time to be?
My grand-mother, like any grand-mother told me: I like when you visit me, I like meeting my friends, I like to take care of my flowers, I like to look at my photos to remember happy souvenirs.
Little girls told me: I like to play with my cat, I like to be with my grand-mother, I like when all the family is together and laugh.
The women in-between said: I like to spend time with my family, to dance, to meet friends, to practice my hobby, to have time for myself.
Combining all these answers I decided to create a symbolic watch. A watch expressing
LIFE – HARMONY - SPIRITUALITY
I was invited in Yaoundé, Cameroun, Africa, as a keynote speaker for the BPW conference. It was a three days meeting where we could really develop a true relationship with the participants. I especially spent a lot of time with the young women. They were sincerely interested in sharing their dreams and concerns with me. The African BPW coordinator, Adenike Osadolor, seemed also very interested. She finally asked me to write my story. I answered “Writing a story is easy but you have to find a publisher”. She answered: “I am a publisher and I publish a series about women. We need role models, and African women believed that life is easy for European women. You demonstrate that it is not the case and that you also have to be courageous and determined.”
From my childhood, I have learned that it is very important, when you want to do something, to ask yourself the question: “Why”. Adenike gave me this answer and it convinced me.
Your family?
We are the best ambassador of our project. Telling our story is the most efficient way to make our project known as well as the most pleasant and affordable one.
