 It is located in a strip of Atlantic coast of
Brazil, near the Tropic of Capricorn,
where the shoreline is oriented east to
west.
 It was the capital of Brazil until 1960,
when Brasília took its place. Residents
of the city are known as Cariocas. The
official song of Rio's "Cidade
Maravillosa".
 Rio is considered a global city by the
inventory-Beta 2008 from the University
of Loughborough.
 The region occupies Rio de janeiro
it was discovered on January 1, 1502
by a Portuguese expedition led by
Gaspar de Lemos, who believe they
have reached the mouth of a great
river, dubbed the bay the name of
Rio de Janeiro, Portuguese, “rio de
enero". But the French were the
first to settle in the region.
 The Portuguese attacked the
colony and began the fight to
permanently expel the French and
secure their rights in the region, a
struggle that lasted several years.
 The climate is tropical Atlantic, with warm summers and
mild winter. Temperatures can rise to over 35 degrees and
occasionally exceed 40 degrees in interior areas of the city.
The coldest months are June and July and the hottest
months are December and January
Rio's population was 6,320,446 people, making it the second
largest urban area in Brazil and the third in South America.
More women (53.17%) than men (46.86%). 51.2% of the
population is white (3,234,812 people), 36.5% are colored
black or mestizo (2,307,104), 11.4% are colored black (724,197)
and 0, 7% are Asian (46.484 people) and 0.1 are indigenous
(6764)
 The predominant religion is Catholicism, but there are Protestants,
spiritualists, Jews ..
 The official national language is Portuguese. English and Spanish
are also part of the curriculum of the official high school. There are
international schools, such as the American College of Rio de
Janeiro, School Our Lady of Mercy, Corcovado German School,
the Lycée Français and the British School of Rio de Janeiro.
 Rio de Janeiro is the second richest in
Brazil after São Paulo city.
 It is the headquarters of Petrobras and
Vale, and major oil companies and
telephony in Brazil companies. In Rio are
many universities and institutes, is the
second largest research and development
in Brazil.
 In Rio are the major cultural and
entertainment companies, major national
and international groups in the shipping
industry and the largest shipyards in the
country.
 The 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, and
will be the first time a South American city hosts the
event. The Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro will
also host the final of FIFA World Cup 2014 and also
received the World Youth Day in 2013.
 The most important

 Corcovado: is a hill 710m high and
lush vegetation, part of Tijuca
National Park. At the top is the
Christ Redeemer 30 meters high,
standing on a pedestal 8 m which
was inaugurated in 1931.
 Los Arcos de Lapa: ancient
aqueduct, now used as a viaduct
for the tram to Santa Teresa nose.
Los Arcos is located in downtown
Rio, in the neighborhood of Lapa.

Monasterio de San Benito:
founded in 1590. Located atop a hill
in the center of the metropolis. It
has a baroque decoration and
interior is lined with gilded wood.
Biblioteca Nacional: It is
located in a building opened in
1910, and performed in
neoclassical style. It has a
collection of nearly nine
million official documents, the
first newspapers in the
country and many historical
documents.
Teatro Municipal:
inspired by the Paris
Opera. It is located in the
Marechal Floriano square
and is a building
constructed between
1905 and 1909 is mainly
used for dance
performances and music.
Garota de Ipanema: Located in the
neighborhood of Ipanema. His fame
is that there musician Vinicius de
Moraes wrote the classic song "Girl
from Ipanema". Notable cod
fritters, crab meat, with different
fittings. To drink, beer and
caipirinhas prepared.
Kilograma: located at 644 Rua

  • 3.  It is located in a strip of Atlantic coast of Brazil, near the Tropic of Capricorn, where the shoreline is oriented east to west.  It was the capital of Brazil until 1960, when Brasília took its place. Residents of the city are known as Cariocas. The official song of Rio's "Cidade Maravillosa".  Rio is considered a global city by the inventory-Beta 2008 from the University of Loughborough.
  • 4.  The region occupies Rio de janeiro it was discovered on January 1, 1502 by a Portuguese expedition led by Gaspar de Lemos, who believe they have reached the mouth of a great river, dubbed the bay the name of Rio de Janeiro, Portuguese, “rio de enero".
