• 1 o’clock = Es la una
• 2 o’clock = Son las dos
• 3 o’clock = Son las tres

• When the minute hand is between 1 and 30...

• 8:20 = Son las ocho y veinte
• 12:25 = Son las doce y veinticinco

• 15 and 30 have specific words
• We don’t use quince or treinta
• 15 = cuarto (litteraly means quarter)
• 30 = media (litteraly means half)

• We subtract from the next hour
• 2:40 (3 - 20)
• 6:50 (7-10)

• 9:55 (10-5) = Son las diez menos cinco
• 12:35 (1-25) = Es la una menos veinticinco
• 2:45 (3-15) = Son las tres menos cuarto

• Son las tres menos cuarto.

• To ask what time an event occurs
• Like...
• “What time is English?”
• “What time is the party?”

11. Upcoming Events
• You place an (a) before ¿Qué hora...?
• This makes the question read “At what time...?”
• ¿A qué hora (ser) (event)?

• - A las dos y siete
• Notice we did not use (es) or (son) in the answer
