3. The Playwork qualifications are for those people who work with children.
Playwork is a highly skilled profession that enriches and enhances children’s
play. It takes place where adults support children’s play but it is not driven by
prescribed education or care outcomes.
Playworker jobs with children can be found in a range of settings, including:
• Adventure Playgrounds
• Play Centres
• Afterschool Clubs
• And, in some areas, Playworkers can be found in Schools.

Our suite of Playwork qualifications is designed to give you the skills,
knowledge and competence required for a career in Playwork.
You'll gain the skills to communicate effectively with young people and to
help their development through play.
This suite of qualifications has been designed by both industry and
educational experts and provides a flexible approach for various Playwork
locations and situations.
7. The Playwork Qualifications are for those people who work in a children’s
play centre.
The suite of qualifications, at Levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 is ideal if you are looking
for a career in Playwork.
You could use it to work with school aged children in play groups, leisure
centres and schools.
Who Are They For?
8. As an Intermediate Level Apprentice
you could work as an Assistant
Playworker or Play Centre Assistant,
who would work under supervision of
the Playworker who is in charge. The
Apprentice will contribute to the
organisation and facilitation of play
opportunities.
On the Advanced Level Apprenticeship
you could work as a Playworker or
Senior Playworker, responsible for
supervising the team in the play setting,
ensuring that policies and procedures
are followed, and that a range of play
opportunities are provided.
What is the right Level Apprenticeship?
9. NVQ/QCF Level 2 will suit you if you have worked in a Playwork setting for
some time. You would like to progress in your career and take on greater
responsibility.
NVQ/QCF Level 3 will suit you if you're either working as a supervisor in a
Playwork setting or would like to take on a supervisory role. This could be in a
job at an afterschool club, adventure playground or playscheme.

10. Level 4 has been developed specifically for learners who might be employed as:
• Supervisors/Managers of Playwork settings
• Playwork Development Officers (usually L.A.).
Level 5 is ideal for candidates who, as experienced Playworkers, are developing,
leading and reviewing permanent or temporary play provisions.
