Cellular automata for urban growth modeling: a chronological review on factor...agungwah
A presentation for the 13th edition of the International Conference on Computers in Urban Planning and Urban Management (CUPUM) takes place in the Faculty of Geosciences of Utrecht University on 2-5 July 2013 at the Uithof Campus in Utrecht, NL.
Urban growth studies have attracted considerable attention over the past two decades. This article reviews the driving factors been identified and studied in cellular automata (CA) urban growth modeling. Over a hundred articles published between 1993 and 2012 were selected and reviewed. The driving factors were extracted from the transition rules and classified according to their similarity and mechanism in influencing urban growth. Our analysis shows that researches between 1993 and 2000 mainly focus on using geomorphological factors while recent studies tend to also include socio-economic factors, resulting in more sophisticated urban CA models. Nevertheless, the human-behavior factors impacting urban growth are generally under-represented. Geographically, more applications of the CA urban growth models have been seen in the developed countries compared with those in the developing countries, suggesting substantial work needed to address issues in understanding and modeling rapid urban growth in the developing countries.

Flexural Behavior of Fibrous Reinforced Cement Concrete Blended With Fly Ash ...Ijripublishers Ijri
Research for high strength and better performance characteristics of concrete are leading the researchers for developing
better structural concrete and new structural application techniques.New types of concrete have come in application
in construction by using supplementary cementitious materials like fly ash, silica fume metakaoline, nanosilica and
other materials using various reinforcing materials like different type of fibers for achieving better performance for the
composite compared to the normal concrete.In the present experimental investigation, a mix design for high strength
concrete of M80 is tried using triple blending technique with ternary blend of metakaoline and fly ash as partial replacement
by weight of cement at various blended percentages ranging between 10%-40% with steel fibers having aspect ratio
of 50. The various percentages of steel fibers to be tried are 0%, 0.5% and 1% by volume of concrete. The workability is
measured for its consistency using compaction factor method.The project aims at finding the optimum replacement of
cement by fly ash and metakaoline from which maximum benefit in various strengths and workability of the mix can be
obtained. The results of fiber reinforced specimens with various percentages of ternary blend are compared with control
specimens to study the behaviour of FRC properties with various percentages of the blends as partial replacement by
weight of cement. Sufficient number of cubes and beams will be cast. The case specimens will be tested for the change
in compressive and flexural strengths at 7 & 28 days for M80 concrete.It is expected that the results of present investigation
would help to arrive at the optimum percentages of the admixtures and fibre reinforcement to achieve optimum
strength properties of the composite.

Summary: At The Economist’s War on Cancer 2015 event on 20 October 2015 (http://www.economist.com/events-conferences/emea/war-cancer-london), EY’s Silvia Ondategui-Parra joined the panel discussion “The patient/payer debate—balancing clinical need and affordability.” The panel explored the ongoing tension between the soaring cost of cancer drugs and governments’ ability to fund them and raised the question, do we need an entirely new pricing model? This EY infographic was developed to highlight some of the key trends driving the debate.
AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF MODIFIED CONCRETE USING FLY ASH AND STONE DUSTAM Publications
Construction activity in India during the last decade has more than doubled. Concrete has been the most preferred construction material for over five decades. It is being increasingly used day by day all over the world due to its versatility, mouldability, high compressive strength and many more advantages. The problem of how to meet the increasing demand and cost of concrete in sustainable manner is a challenge in the field of civil engineering and environmental studies. Alternative materials generally used are mainly the industrial wastes which are facing the problems of safe disposal and cause environment hazards. Fly-ash and Stone dust are such industrial wastes in huge quantity facing the safe disposal. Fly-ash is a product developed as industrial waste during the production of electricity in Thermal Power Plants, where coal is prime material. Due to its highly puzzolonic and cementatious properties, Fly ash can be used in much larger amount as cement replacement material in concrete than practiced as of today. Stone dust is a byproduct generated from quarrying activities involved in the production of crushed coarse aggregate in crusher and stone quarries. River sand is becoming a very scarce material. The sand mining from our rivers have become objectionably excessive in view of both economy and environment. Stone dust can be used as an alternative to natural sand and its effects on the strength and workability of the concretes need to be investigated. Unfortunately limited research has been conducted to explore the potential utilization of stone dust in concrete mixture. In view of the above, present investigation is an attempt towards the assessment of suitability use of Fly-ash and stone dust in concrete production.
- In the present scenario carbon emission and sand
mining are major concern due to its hazardous effect to
environment and making serious imbalance to the ecosystem.
Various studies have been conducted to reduce severe effect on
environment, using byproducts like copper slag as partial
replacement of fine aggregate. Different researchers have also
revealed numerous uses of copper slag as a replacing agent in
determining the strength of concrete. A comprehensive review of
studies has been presented in this paper for scope of replacement
of fine aggregate from copper slag in concrete
