carbonTRACK is at the forefront of a smart energy future that reshapes the way you purchase, sell and store energy.
carbonTRACK is an energy management platform and Internet of Things hub. Through smart phones, users control energy usage and switch electrical devices and appliances on and off from wherever they are.
carbonTRACK is an Australian technology company that combines hardware and software to help people reduce and redistribute electricity use. The technology makes buildings energy efficient and at the same time prepares homes and businesses for the Internet of Things, battery storage, and electric vehicle control.
Africa GreenCo mission is to promote the development of a public-private partnership in the form of an
independent, creditworthy, renewable energy offtaker/trader of power, acting at a regional level in
Sub-Saharan Africa to purchase electricity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and sell via the power
pools.
Electricity generation in Nigeria started in 1896 although it was not until 1929 that the first utility company, the Nigerian Electricity Supply Company was established.
In the 1950s and 1960s the Nigerian government created the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria to control all existing diesel/coal fired isolated power plants across the country and the Niger Dams Authority to develop hydroelectric power in Nigeria. These two entities were amalgamated into the National Electric Power Authority in 1972.
By the late 1990s it became clear that the publicly owned and operated electricity system was failing to meet Nigeria’s power needs. The National Electric Power Policy of 2001 set the go-forward framework for power reform in Nigeria, leading to the National Electric Power Policy and thus the NIPP.
The players in the Nigerian electricity market are often referred to as market participants. In order to carry on business as a market participant, it is imperative that such entity(ies) obtain the appropriate licence from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Electricity Generation Licence.
Distribution Licence.
Transmission Licence.
System Operation Licence.
Trading Licence.
A generation licence authorises the licensee to construct, own, operate and maintain a generation station for purposes of generation and supply of electricity in accordance with the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005. Subject to this Act, the holder ofa generation licence may sell power or ancillary services to any of the classes of persons specified in the licence. An electricity generation licence is needed for any power generation activity beyond 1MW.
A transmission licence authorises the licencee to carry on grid construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission system within Nigeria, or that connect Nigeria with a neighbouring jurisdiction limited to, the following activities as may be specified in the licence.
A trading license authorizes the licencee to engage in the purchasing, selling, and trading of electricity. The Commission (NERC) determines the terms and conditions of trading licences as may be appropriate in the circumstances. The Commission may also issue temporary bulk purchase and resale licence, giving the licensee, the ability to purchase electrical power and ancillary services from independent power producers and successor generation companies for the purpose of re-sale to one or more other licensees, or to an eligible customer. Example of a licensed trading entity in Nigeria is the NBET.
This is the Government administrative arm that deals with policy formulation and provides general direction to other agencies involved in the power sector.
The key function of the Ministry is to develop and facilitate the implementation of policies for the provision of adequate and reliable power supply in the country.

An overview of Energy & utilities industry. In the future, civilization will be forced to research and develop alternative energy sources. Our current rate of fossil fuel usage will lead to an energy crisis this century. In order to survive the energy crisis, many companies in the energy industry are inventing new ways to extract energy from renewable sources. While the rate of development is slow, mainstream awareness and government pressures are growing.
The deck talks about the needs of energy awareness and consumer education about the terminologies and technologies within the industry value chain so, energy can be consumed efficiently and smartly.
The electricity sector in Argentina constitutes the third largest power market in Latin America. It relies mostly on thermal generation (54% of installed capacity) and hydropower generation (41%). The country still has a large untapped hydroelectric potential. The prevailing natural gas-fired thermal generation is at risk due to the uncertainty about future gas supply.
Faced with rising electricity demand (over 6% annually) and declining reserve margins, the government of Argentina is in the process of commissioning large projects, both in the generation and transmission sectors. To keep up with rising demand, it is estimated that about 1,000 MW of new generation capacity are needed each year. An important number of these projects are being financed by the government through trust funds, while independent private initiative is still limited as it has not fully recovered yet from the effects of the Argentine economic crisis.
The electricity sector was unbundled in generation, transmission and distribution by the reforms carried out in the early 1990s. Generation occurs in a competitive and mostly liberalized market in which 75% of the generation capacity is owned by private utilities. In contrast, the transmission and distribution sectors are highly regulated and much less competitive than generation.
Private and state-owned companies carry out generation in a competitive, mostly liberalized electricity market, with 75% of total installed capacity in private hands. The share in public hands corresponds to nuclear generation and to the two bi-national hydropower plants: Yacyretá (Argentina-Paraguay) and Salto Grande (Argentina-Uruguay). The generation sector is highly fragmented with more than ten large companies, all of them providing less than 15% of the system's total capacity. Power generators sell their electricity in the wholesale market operated by the CAMMESA.
CAMMESA S.A., a wholesale electricity market administrator offers operation and dispatch of generation; price calculation in the spot market; and the administration of the commercial transactions in the electricity market. The company also purchases and sells electric power from abroad and to other countries. CAMMESA S.A. offers consulting services. The company was founded in 1992 and is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
n 2005, Argentina imported 6.38 TW·h of electricity while it exported 3.49 TW·h. Net energy imports thus were about 3% of consumption.
Argentina also imports electricity from Paraguay, produced by the jointly built Yaciretá Dam. On 18 September 2006 Paraguay agreed to settling its debt of $11,000,000,000 owed to Argentina for the construction of Yaciretá by paying in electricity, at the rate of 8,000 GWh per year for 40 years.
Total electricity coverage in Argentina was as high as 95% in 2003. However, about 30% of the rural population lacks access to electricity.
Understanding the East African Aggregator LandscapeCGAP
What are aggregators?
Aggregators can be thought of as the glue that helps many parts of the digital financial services (DFS) ecosystem to work together.
They allow Payment Instrument Providers (PIPs) – like Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) offering mobile money services or banks offering mobile banking - to easily integrate with entities that want to send money to or receive money from end customers. These entities can be utility companies who want to receive payments, businesses who want to pay salaries or donors who want to pay recipients, for example.
Why do they matter?
Aggregators enable the seamless collection, disbursement and circulation of digital payments across multiple payment providers. They mostly work in the background, and millions of transactions in East Africa pass through them everyday–usually without customers even being aware of them.
