Hamilton Harbor Nights
Las Harbor nights se celebran en Hamilton todos los miércoles, durante la
temporada alta (de mayo a octubre).Cuando se pone el sol, la calle Front Street
se cierra a la circulación,y las tiendas y los restaurantes abren hasta las 9 y 10 de
la noche, y la calle se convierteen un espacio lleno de ambiente, de luces y de
música. Los artistas y artesanoslocales, vestidos con trajes coloridos, explican a
los visitantes cómo hacen su trabajoy lo ponen a la venta. Los bailarines de
Gombey atraen la atención con su magnífico ritmoque contagiaa los visitantes; y
la Bermuda Regiment band desfila con sus gaitas, y la noche se convierteen un
momento de lo más festivo.
Si piensa en cenar en Front Stret durante la HarborNight, reserve un
restaurante con antelación, puesto que hay mucha gente. Si se encuentra anclado
en el King’s Wharf Dockyard, puede tomar un ferry a Hamilton a las 18:30 o a las

Hamilton Harbor Nights
The Harbor nights are celebrated in Hamilton every Wednesday, during the high season
(from May to October). When the sun sets, FrontStreet closes to traffic, and shops and
restaurants open until 9 and 10 at night, and the street becomes a space full of
atmosphere, lights and music. Local artists and artisans, dressed in colorful costumes,
explain to visitors how they do their work and put it up for sale. The dancers of Gombey
attractattention with their magnificentrhythm that spreads to the visitors; and the

festive moment.
If you plan on dining at FrontStret during Harbor Night, book a restaurantin advance,
since there are many people. If you are anchored at King's Wharf Dockyard, you can take
a ferry to Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. or at 7:30 p.m. and return at 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. If you are
in St George, you can take a bus to get to Hamilton.

Bermuda Day.
El día de la fiesta nacional de las
Bermudas es un día festivo que se suele
celebrar el 24 de mayo (si el día cae en
fin de semana se cambia para la semana
siguiente) y marca el principio del verano
en las islas. Hay muchas actividades por
toda la isla y miles de personas salen a
las calles para celebrarlo. Uno de los
eventos más importantes es el gran
desfile de Hamilton, conocido como el
Heritage Day parade, tradición que
comenzó en Gran Bretaña en 1902 (antes
se conocía como el día del Imperio y más
tarde como el día de la
Commmonwealth).

The day of the national holiday of Bermuda
is a holiday celebrated on May 24 and the
beginning of summer on the islands. There
are many activities for the whole island and
miles of people take to the streets to
celebrate. One of the most important
events is the great Hamilton parade, known
as the Heritage Day parade, which began in
Britain in 1902 (it was formerly known as
Empire Day and later as Commonwealth
Day).

Bacalao con Papas
El bacalao con papas es probablemente lo que

9. Flatts es un tranquilo pueblo pesquero ubicado en Hamilton
Parish, a medio camino entre Hamilton City y la ciudad de St.
George. Una gran parte de ella también esta en la parroquia de
Smith. El pueblo de Flatts se trata de hermosas casas de
colores pastel, pintorescas zonas de pesca, palmeras, grandes
paisajes y buenos restaurantes.
El pueblo de Flatts se encuentra frente a la zona del mar
interior de Harrington Sound, que está llena de cuevas, grutas y
pasajes subterráneos. Aquí encontrará más de 100 tipos de
esponjas en las aguas.
Si vas de excursión por la sección de Bermudas Railway Trail
que pasa por Hamilton Parish, también pasarás por Flatts. The
Aquarium (BAMZ) se encuentra cerca y al otro lado del puente

Flatts is a sleepy fishing village located in Hamilton Parish halfway
between Hamilton City and the town of St. George. A large part of it
is also in Smith's parish. Flatts village is all about the beautiful
pastel colored houses, picturesque fishing areas, palm trees, great
landscapes and nice eateries.
Flatts village faces the Harrington Sound inland sea area which is
full of caves, grottos and subterranean passages. You will find more
than 100 types of sponge in the waters here.
If you are hiking along the Bermuda Railway Trail section which
passes through Hamilton Parish, you would be passing by Flatts as
well. The Aquarium (BAMZ) is located nearby and across the Flatts
bridge. So a combined visit of Aquarium and Flatts could be a good
idea.

11. Cueva de Cristal
es la mas famosa de las muchas cavernas subterráneas
de las Bermudas Se encuentra en la parroquia de
Hamilton, cerca de Castle Harbour. La cueva es de
aproximadamente 500 m de largo y 62 m de
profundidad, Bajo 19 - 20 m por debajo del nivel del mar.
La cueva se forma por encima del nivel del mar y, como
el nivel del mar subio muchos espeleotemas, que se
formaron en el aire, ahora estan bajo el nivel del agua.

It is the most famous of the many subterranean
caverns of Bermuda. It is located in the parish of
Hamilton, near Castle Harbor. The cave is
approximately 500 m long and 62 m deep, under
19 - 20 m below sea level. The cave is formed
above sea level and, as the sea level rose many
speleothems, which formed in the air, are now
below the water level. A tourist attraction since
1907, was discovered in 1905 by Carl Gibbons and

15. MUSICA MUSIC
Entre la música tradicional se encuentra el Gombey es un
símbolo de la cultura bermudeña, mezcla de las culturas
británica, africana y caribeña; y la música de Bagpipe, que
trajeron los soldados irlandeses y escoceses a las islas entre
los siglos XVIII y XX; es una música de gaita que tiene a
algunos de sus mejores intérpretes en la Bermuda Islands pie
Band y en la Salvation Army Young People’s Band. En segundo
lugar, está la música de coro (choir), de gran importancia en las
iglesias, dentro de la que destaca el Philharmonica Choir, el
coro de Correos (Post Office Choir) o Bermuda Chamber Choir.
En tercer lugar está el Calipso que se popularizó entre los años
40 y 50: es una música con ritmos originarios de Trinidad y
Tobago que cantaban los esclavos africanos.

Gombey Dance.

Gombey Dance
The cultural and musical influence of Africa and the Caribbean shows all
its splendor in the Gombey, a spectacular dance for its physical display
and for the colorful costumes that are shaken under syncopated rhythms.
This popular dance, a mixture of British, African-Western and Caribbean
cultures, is similar to the Goombay of the Bahamas (the word Gombey
could be the Bantu word for "rhythm" and also refers to a percussion
instrument of African origin) and dance of the Caribbean Mummers.
Throughout the colonial period, Africans, who were slaves on the islands,
introduced many traditions that influenced the Gombey version of
Bermuda. The Gombey is played by groups of between 10 and 30
dancers disguised in colorful costumes reminiscent of the plumage of
tropical birds. The rhythm of the Gombey energetic and going in
crescendo, also depending on the state of mind of the spectators.
Over time, this dance became a great show. At Bermuda's big festivals,
such as Harbor Nights in Hamilton or Market Nights, in St. George,
Gombey has a preponderant role. During Christmas it is quite popular, as
well as other events, such as the Bermuda Day Parade, Boxing Day, New
Year's Day and football and cricket matches (it is typical to throw coins at
the feet of dancers).

St George Market Nights

George, vestido para la ocasión, abre el evento
tirando a una mujer al agua del puerto, que
recuerda los castigos públicos del siglo XVIII.

St George Market Nights
Market Night is a traditional festival that takes place in St George
every Tuesday afternoon in King's Square: it starts around 7:00
p.m. and is organized by a group of businessmen in the city. There
are about 50 stalls where you can buy crafts and local art, and
different products made on the island. At 7:30 there is an
unexpected event: the town crier of St George, dressed for the
occasion, opens the event by throwing a woman into the water of
the port, which recalls the public punishments of the eighteenth
century.
