Modal verbs such as can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would behave differently than regular verbs. They do not take "-s" in the third person singular and use "not" for negation. Modal verbs cannot be used in the past tenses or future tenses. They modify the meaning of the verbs they follow.
