Master's DEGREE IN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT OF BUILDINGS
The Master's Degree in Environmental Design and Management of Buildings is an offi-
cial 60- ECTS Master's degree for architects, construction and other engineers who wish
to specialize in environmental and construction design. it's aim is to train experts in
environmental certification, energy management and other environmental areas, and in
the analysis of the life cycle and innovative construction systems, which will prepare
them to deal with the progress of this ever-evolving industry.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION:
QUANTIFYING
SUSTAINABILITY
The MDEDMB students
will learn to carry out
proper calculations of the
efficacy of the
environmental measures
taken to reduce the
impact of construction on
the environment. To
assess the amount of
energy saved and the
impact of the materials
used, they will use
programs such as Design
Builder, Passive House
and SimaPro, among
others. In addition, they
will use monitoring
equipment such as
probes, recorders,
thermographic cameras
and blower doors, on
pre-existing buildings to
asses their performance.
LINKS WITH THE
BUSINESS WORLD
The Master's program has
the support of important
companies in the sector,
who share their
know-how and expertise
in the application of new
technologies in the
construction industry.
Likewise, the students
will have the chance to
apply the skills gained
in a Final Master's
Degree Project in
construction companies.
INTERNATIONALIZATION
MDEDMB classes will be
given by professors from
the UK, Austria, Sweden,
the USA, and other
countries, in order to give
a global perspective to the
subject matter of the
degree. Additionally, the
MDGAE program allows
for the possibility of
taking 6 ECTS in a
university abroad, thus
permitting the students to
gain the skills needed to
develop their professional
career in an international
and multicultural milieu.
RESEARCH
The direct relationship of
this master's degree with
the research projects of the
Department of Construction
Science, together with
synergy with other Spanish
and international research
groups make the MDEDMB
a training program which
incorporates the latest
developments and
results in environmental
innovation and in building
technologies.
APLICACIÓN PRÁCTICA:
CUANTIFICACIÓN DE LA
SOSTENIBILIDAD
Los alumnos del MDGAE
aprenden a realizar el
cálculo real de la eficiencia
de las medidas ambientales
adoptadas con objeto de
disminuir el impacto de la
edificación en el medio
ambiente. Para realizar la
valoración del ahorro
energético generado, los
alumnos utilizan programas
como SimaPro, Design
Builder, Passive House,
entre otros. Asimismo,
utilizan equipos de
monitorización de edificios
ya construidos para evaluar
su comportamiento:
sondas, registradores,
cámaras termográficas y
blower doors.
FUSIÓN CON EL MUNDO
DE LA EMPRESA
El máster cuenta con la
colaboración de
importantes empresarios
del sector, que comparten
con los alumnos su
Know-how y sus
conocimientos sobre las
aplicaciones de las nuevas
tecnologías en el sector de
la edificación.
Además, los alumnos
tienen la oportunidad de
aplicar los conocimientos
adquiridos en las clases
durante la realización del
Trabajo Fin de Máster en
empresas del sector.
INTERNACIONALIZACIÓN
Profesores de Reino Unido,
Austria, Suecia y EEUU,
entre otras nacionalidades,
imparten clase en el
MDGAE con objeto de tratar
la temática del máster
desde un punto de vista
global. Además, el
programa del MDGAE prevé
la posibilidad de cursar 6
ECTS en una universidad
extranjera, logrando de
esta forma que los alumnos
adquieran las habilidades
necesarias para desarrollar
su carrera profesional en
un ambiente internacional
y multicultural.
VÍNCULO CON LA
INVESTIGACIÓN
La relación directa del
máster con los proyectos de
investigación del departa-
mento de Edificación de la
Escuela de Arquitectura, así
como las sinergias con
otros grupos de investiga-
ción nacionales e interna-
cionales hacen del MDGAE
un programa de formación
que incorpora los últimos
avances y los resultados
en innovación ambiental
y en tecnologías de la
edificación.
