Building Trust by Removing Barriers
Find common ground on different levels of connec-
tion; drawing a difference between the approach to
individuals deeply entrenched in their culture and those
belonging to the “international community”. Identify
cultural and personal barriers that once could hinder
international negotiations, to now begin the process
of building understanding and trust. This course will
focus on how to approach the differences, identify who
belongs to a transnational culture, and recall charac-
ter traits across cultures discussed in “The Expanding
Global View when Cultures Cross” course with specific
attention given to language issues. Maximize the impact
of English with non-native speakers. Often common
word choice has a potential to be distorted and with
words acquiring secondary hidden meanings or idi-
oms and slang usage. The last session will be entirely
dedicated to interactive simulation of the dynamics
described in the course.

Volunteer Management
Successful organizations value the commitment of people
who share their time, energy and expertise. Providing an
effective and supportive environment for your volunteers
will motivate continued participation. Look at building,
motivating and evaluating programs that focus on creating
strong teams that go from good to great! These four
courses will be the firm foundation for programs where
people are the key element—volunteers, work teams and
event coordination. Enroll in one course or take all four for
the Volunteer Management Certificate.
Volunteer Management—Building a Successful
Program
In community programs, collaboration, integration
and commitment are sure ingredients for success. But
is there more? Organizations need volunteers to be
sustainable. Being open to exploring and investing in
new services and technologies will deliver high-impact
programs and services. Are short and long term goals
helping or hindering success and utilizing the talents
of your volunteer teams? Efforts to be more effective
and efficient are key traits in our rapidly changing time.
With success at the core, a willingness to try new ideas
allow your project to thrive and grow. Add new tools
for strategic planning or ideas to use with staff, volun-
teers and partners allowing for the capacity to adapt.

Prerequisites for Success
Due to the intensity and nature of our program, we request
that those in recovery have been sober for a minimum of
one year before seeking admission. Some may find it more
helpful to have two or more years in recovery. Please note
that the courses are not intended as part of a recovery
program to support participant sobriety, or as a replacement
for therapy. Students are expected to be open-minded
and willing to learn about and discuss new and different
approaches for the treatment of addictions.
Individual classes are reasonably priced at $129 for
16 hours.
Instructions and passwords to access course materials
