1. The Rock (Barahona)
The Rock is a municipality of the city Barahona in the Dominican Republic. This
beautiful municipality was founded in the 17th century.
The Rock also known as the southern Mesopotamia because it is placing
between two great rivers: the Laguna El Rincon de Cabral and Rio Yaque del
Sur.
The big problem that has this municipality is located between twogreatrivers,
which when it rains a lot the rains have caused and lightning state.
In this place you can find clean water and fertile land for agriculture. The first
inhabitants of this village were engaged in fishing, hunting, and Collect eggs.
This beautiful city is defined by its landscapes, beaches and historic
monuments.
On the origin of man there are two versions: one says that the existence of
many large rocks gave rise to the existence of man and another version says
that was formed by the Spanish community.
The first people who lived in this Municipality were the families: Segura, Lopez,
Cornielle, Happy, Olivero, and Espinosa.
At the rock operated one of the three rural schools that were in the country in
the 50 s. These schools were offering the courses of: industrial arts, home
economics, agriculture, and formal education is taught. The other two schools
of this nature are located, one in Santiago de los Caballeros and the other in
Higuey. The three schools were administered by the service of international
cooperation.
In April of 1961 the President Trujillo was to begin a project to improve all
three schools, but was not carried out because of the overthrow of the
president. The President Trujillo died on May 30 of the same year. The state of
district of the city began in the period 1982-1986.
Nowadays the rock likethe entirecity of Barahona has become one of the largest
tourist destinations of south of the Dominican Republic because it has a large
tourist port that receives largeamountof tourist each year
