WORDS OF REBELLION

2. This text is an attemp to trace a history of the recent Chilean
rebellion (18th October 2019 - present) through the transcription
of the many verbal signs that protesters carried into the
manifestations.
I left Chile to study abroad one moth before the rebellion started.
From the UK, my access to the protest has been possible due to
social media and the many photographers and film-makers that
register and shared the events. Those images have been little
pieces of the new Chile that I didn’t get to know. Thank very much
for let us accompany the fight despite the distance

El presente texto es un intento por trazar una historia. Una
historia del estallido social chileno a través de la recolección y
transcripción de carteles de protesta que, desde el 18 de octubre
2019 al 09 de marzo 2020, desplegaron realidades, emociones,
demandas. Entre el humor y la rabia, fueron voces visuales del
sentir de la colectividad, mutando su contenido en medida los
acontecimientos fueron evolucionando. Porque ¿quién escribirá
esta historia? ¿Cómo se trazará la complejidad de esa línea que
hoy más que nunca cuenta con múltiples voces? Me niego a los
historiadores. Me niego a un análisis academicista. Que la línea
se abra y tuerza sobre sí misma desde la honestidad sensible de los
carteles. Mas debo admitir que esta historia es una recolección
desde un estado de negación. Con Chile desbordado en el cuerpo a
pesar de la distancia.
Un mes antes del comienzo de la revuelta, viajé fuera de Chile
para estudiar en el extranjero. Mi acceso a la protesta ha sido
principalmente a través de redes sociales. Agradezco a los muchos
fotógrafos y audiovisuales, y a todo aquel que con su cámara
registró y compartió las imágenes de los acontecimientos. Para
denunciar, para hacer memoria, para reflexionar, para dar a conocer
las realidades en las diferentes ciudades, para visibilizar la
violencia o para dar cuenta del amor colectivo que sostiene
la lucha. Desde la distancia, esas imágenes han sido pequeños
pedacitos del nuevo Chile que no alcancé a conocer. Por lo que
sí, este intento de historia es una mirada mediada por el acceso a
internet. Disculpen si es un poco barsa de mi parte al no cargar en
el cuerpo lo que ustedes han vivido. Les ofrezco el pedacito que
es mi acercamiento mientras intentaba fundirme con la pantalla.
