1.Introduction
1.1. The Wood Cement Composite. WCC
The raw material from which the Anti-blast products are composed is wood cement
composite, which consists of mineralized wood chips with homogeneous texture
bonded with Portland cement.
The mineralizing treatment, maintains intact the mechanical properties of the timber
holding the biological degradation processes, making the timber practically inert
material with a large fire resistance.
The chips coated with Portland cement forms a stable structure, compact, strong and
durable, while its honeycomb structure provides good thermal performance, lightness
and gives a material with high absorption
capacity of the pressure waves. The
material is resistant to water, ice and
moisture, is breathable and safe,
meeting all the principles of green
building.
The material does not contain any toxic
materials, produces no harmful gases, is
not radioactive or flammable. Their
physical characteristics as perspiration,
the absence of electrostatic charges, the
ability to retain heat and moisture
regulating ownership, guarantees optimal
conditions of habitability. Wood cement
conglomerate has unlimited durability,
and is not subject to chemical or
biological degradation.
For all these reasons the wood cement
conglomerate is regarded as an
environmentally friendly material.

2.The construction system
Anti-blast is a system of construction of solid walls with reinforced concrete formwork,
whose structure absorbs more energy on impact than a conventional concrete wall.
Anti-blast block is an integrated construction system, which allows to build the walls,
the floor and roof of a building. The system involves the construction of:
Insulated concrete walls. Using a formwork block cement conglomerate wood
material of very high thermal insulation and sound absorption, whose function is
to coat the wall. The system allows rapid implementation and dry. The concrete
core of the wall, provides high thermal inertia, reaching the comfort of old stone
or adobe houses, which kept the heat in winter and cool in summer. The walls
alveoli allow breathable enclosure of the housing, quickly evacuating the humidity
from inside to outside (water vapor migration). The walls have extreme structural
strength and, with a proper calculation of the veil reinforced concrete, can obtain
buildings resistant to earthquakes and explosions. The wall reaches very high
values of acoustic insulation, since a partition 45 dB, 52 dB in the wall of 20 cm
thickness, up to 60 dB of the wall of 30 cm.
Insulating floors and roofs, based on the use of self-supporting sheets of Wood
Cement Composite, quick start that give the forged piece or cover of a high
thermal and acoustic insulation. The properties are similar to those of the walls.
Noise barriers and protection, with high acoustic power and quick and easy
placing. Particularly suitable in the protection of explosion due to its high
absorption capacity and strength.
2.1. Security applications
Anti-blast system prevents buildings from collapse in case of explosion or earthquake,
and in turn the CMC double layer absorbs the energy of the shock wave propagation
mitigating and avoiding fragmentation of the wall (spalling).
The system allows the reinforcement of new or old buildings, providing a solid concrete
structure for the building, which ensures strength front to gas explosions, bombings,
earthquakes or hurricanes.
The composition of the cement particle board (WCC) absorbs energy from the shock
waves, causing minor damages to the structural integrity and preventing spalling.
The system is highly recommended for:
• Barracks (Police, Army…)
• Bunkers and Panic Rooms.
• Border Checkpoints, Watchtowers...
• Hazardous Buildings (Stores, Boiler Rooms,...)
• Military Residential Buildings and Public Security Offices
• Perimeter Security Fences
• Fuel Tanks
• Storage of Ammunition and Explosives
The problem of Security in construction requires strength against the impact of an
explosive, projectiles and debris, preventing detachment of the inside construction.
The WCC absorbs coating around the core, Anti-blast removes kindling, while
attenuates shock waves after an explosion.

2.2. Anti-blast behavior
The problem of construction security requires strength against the impact of an
explosive device, avoiding projectiles and debris shedding that act as shrapnel into the
building.
This detachment occurs when cracks are wider than 5 mm.
In a conventional reinforced concrete wall, before an explosion there is no attenuation,
so that the shock wave transmitted to the opposite face produces concrete breaking,
parting out shrapnel that is very dangerous for people are behind the wall.
On the Anti-blast wall, features a double absorbent lining attenuates shock wave and
the transmitted waves, mitigating the effects due to the explosion, and reducing the
possibility of collapse on the concrete. Additionally, concrete is confined within two
more flexible and absorbent layers, so in case of cracking and peeling of rubble these
are confined within the wall.

2.3. Additional advantages
2.3.1. Thermal Insulation
The low thermal conductivity of the wood
cement composite (0.11 W/mºK) and
polystyrene (0.04 W/mºK) allows achieving a
high thermal insulation capacity.
Furthermore, the absence of mortar in the
joints of the blocks avoids the thermal bridge,
improving the insulation values.
2.3.2. Acoustic Insulation
Wood cement composite is highly absorbent,
and the high mass of the concrete wall can
achieve excellent sound insulation values.
2.3.3. Thermal Inertia
The wall of a single sheet of WCC achieves
excellent thermal insulation value, around 12
hours lag and 90 % damping, which results in
an excellent thermal inertia.
This way you get a good performance of the
walls, in winter with high thermal insulation,
and in summer, where the thermal stability
achieved is much higher than the usual
multilayer walls.
2.3.4. Sustainability
The system allows a "Breathing" active through
the wall, the migration of water vapor by
transverse walls
Support alkali prevents the growth of mold and
mildew associated with allergic diseases,
improving the habitability of the interior areas.

3.Ballistic test AP14.5 mm against walls of 25/30 cm thickness
In ballistic tests made in a concrete wall
of 30 cm thickness, and another 25 cm
thickness wall of reinforced concrete, it’s
shown as in the wall of concrete there is
spalling in the other side of the impact
when an artillery projectile 14.5 mm. hits
the wall.
Performing the same test in an Anti-blast
wall of 30 cm thickness, we can see that
in the opposite face does not occur any
fracture or spalling.

concrete wall of 25 cm thickness, after the hit of
a 14.5 mm projectile
