ABSTRACT:
Coumarins are a class of secondary metabolites, widely
distributed in the plant kingdom, and can also be found in fungi
and bacteria.
Structurally they are o-hydroxy cinnamic acid lactones (2H-1-
benzopyran-2-ones) being the simplest representative of
coumarin.
2. They are compounds widely distributed in plants. They are
characterized by the system benzo alfa pirona and its character,
lactonico causes that they are solubilized by solutions
alkaline with the appearance of a yellow color. Its chemical
configuration is C6C3.
All coumarins are soluble in ethanol and methanol, these solvents
are the most suitable for extraction
