MATERIALS TOOLS
To do this project, you will need:
· Standar DIN A3 sheet divided into four parts (4 DIN-A5).
· Tools: Scissors, glue stick, Ruler and squares, graphite pencils, color pencils, cardboard or paper,
tempera paint.
The vase/faces drawing is an exercise designed to illustrate the mental conflict that can
occur between L-mode and R-mode.
It is based on a famous optical illusion drawing, called Vase/Faces because it can be seen
as either two facing profiles or as a symmetrical vase in the center, confusing figure and
background.

2. After completed, you will colour those drawings using four different art techniques.
It is very important to be careful, planning the different stages of this project!
INSTRUCTIONS
Your job, is to create four faces/vases drawings
First of all, divide the A3 sheet into half, and then divide again each half, using ruler and squares.
Now you have four A5 size spaces.
In each one of those spaces, draw the vase/faces exercise.
RIGHT HANDED
Draw first the left profile
LEFT HANDED
Begin with the right profile
INSTRUCTIONS TO DRAW THE VASE/FACES DRAWINGS
1. Draw the first profile.
2. Redraw the same profile. Just take your pencil and go over the lines, naming the
parts as you go, like this: “Forehead... nose... upper lip... lower lip... chin and neck.
3. Then, go to the other side and start to draw the missing profile that will complete the
symmetrical vase.
4. You can draw different profiles in each of the four A5.
After completing the four vase/faces drawings, it's time to colour them:
DIRECTIONS TO COLOUR EACH ONE OF THE DRAWINGS
1) Make a collage using only 2 colours (use cardboard or coloured paper).
2) Make a collage using pieces of illustrated magazines.
3) Use color pencils, mixing and fading the colors.
4) Use tempera painting. Fill one area with a plain color and the other with a textured
pattern.

3. TIME AND HAND IN

Cut out the four exercises and hand them in inserted into a single color carboard folder.
Please, write your name, surname and group on each piece of paper.
