3. ABSTRACT
The electrical properties of certain materials were already known by ancient
civilizations. In 600 BC, Tales of Miletus had found that if the amber was rubbed, it
attracted lighter objects to itself. It was believed that electricity resided in the rubbed
object. Hence the term "electricity" comes from the Greek word "elektron", which
means amber.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Count Alessandro Volta constructed a galvanic
cell. He placed layers of zinc, paper, and copper, and discovered that if the zinc
base was bonded with the last layer of copper, the result was an electric current
flowing through the bonding wire. This simple device was the prototype of the
electric batteries, of the accumulators and of all electric current produced until the
appearance of the dynamo. Meanwhile, Georg Simon Ohm laid the groundwork for
studying the circulation of electric charges inside conductive materials.
In 1819, Hans Oersted discovered that a magnetic needle hung from a thread
moved away from its initial position when an electric current passed by it and
postulated that the electric currents produced a magnetic effect. From this simple
observation came the technology of the electric telegraph. On this basis André
Ampère deduced that electric currents should behave in the same way as magnets.
4. ELECTRICIDAD
5. ELECTRICITY
Electricity is the set of physical phenomena related to the presence and flow
of electric charges. It manifests itself in a variety of phenomena such as
lightning, static electricity, electromagnetic induction or the flow of electric
current. It is a form of energy so versatile that it has a myriad of applications,
for example: transport, air conditioning, lighting and computing.
7. ELECTRICITY MANIFESTS ITSELF THROUGH
VARIOUS PHENOMENA AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
• Electric charge: a property of some subatomic particles, which determines
their electromagnetic interaction. Electrically charged matter produces and is
influenced by electromagnetic fields.
• Electrical current: a flow or displacement of electrically charged particles by
conductive material. It is measured in amps.
• Electric field: a type of electromagnetic field produced by an electric charge,
even when it is not moving. The electric field produces a force in all other
charges, the smaller the greater the distance separating the two charges. In
addition, moving loads produce magnetic fields
.• Electrical potential: is the ability of an electric field to perform work. It is
measured in volts
.• Magnetism: electric current produces magnetic fields, and magnetic fields
that change over time generate electrical current.

14. FILOSOFOS QUE LE APORTARON A LA
ELECTRICIDAD
WILLIAM GILBERT

WILLIAM GILBERT
(Colchester, Essex, 24 May 1544-London, 10 December 1603) was a natural
philosopher and English physician. He is considered one of the pioneers of the
scientific study of magnetism.
TALES DE MILETO
Thales of Miletus is granted the discovery of a mineral which had the property of
attracting certain metals: magnetite. In addition, Thales would observe that rubbing
iron to the magnetite, this one acquired the magnetic properties of the mineral: the
iron imantaba.
Although the Greek philosopher failed to explain correctly the magnetic attraction,
since his reasoning was based on the attribution of "life" or "soul" to magnetite, his
studies did give a name to the physical phenomenon: magnetism.
CHARLES FRANÇOIS DE CISTERNAY DU FAY
Even without a scientific background, Du Fay was soon featured in his experiments
on electricity upon learning of Stephen Gray's work, and devoted his life to the study
of electrical phenomena.
