1. There once was a young boy named
David. He was a shepherd, and
every day he took care of his
father’s sheep. David wasn’t big,
rich or important, but he loved God,
and God had a very special plan for
him.
Hubo un muchachito llamado
David. Era pastor y a diario
cuidaba de las ovejas de su padre.
David no era muy grande, ni rico, ni
importante, pero amaba a Dios, y
Dios tenía algo especial para él.

2. David era muy valiente. Un
día, oyó un gruñido detrás de él.
¡Se acercaba un león!
David oró y luego sacó su
honda y puso una pequeña
piedra en ella. Hizo girar la
honda y luego arrojó la piedra al
aire, derrumbando al león. Las
ovejas estaban a salvo.
David was very brave. One
day he heard a snarl behind him.
A lion was approaching!
With a prayer to God, David
pulled out his sling and put a small
stone inside it. He spun his sling
round and round, and then the
stone flew through the air,
knocking the lion down. The
sheep were safe again.

3. En esos días los israelitas estaban
en guerra con los filisteos. Los filisteos
querían esclavizar al pueblo de Israel.
Tres de los hermanos mayores de
David habían ido a pelear en la guerra.
Un día el padre de David lo llamó:
“Ve al campamento donde están tus
hermanos, y llévales buena comida
preparada por tu madre.”
“Sí, padre” respondió David. Y
partió de inmediato.
In those days, the Israelites were at
war with the philistines. The philistines
wanted to make the people of Israel their
slaves. Three of David’s older brothers
had gone to fight in the war.
One day, David’s father called him.
“Go to the army camp where your
brothers are, to bring them some of your
mother’s good food.”
“Yes, Father”, David said. And he set
off at once.

4. Cuando se acercaba al
campamento oyó gritos y ruido
de armaduras. Subió una colina
para ver a qué se debía el
alboroto del campamento.
David miró con sorpresa el
campamento del ejército filisteo,
y vio un filisteo gigante. ¡Fiu! ¡Por
lo menos debe de ser el doble de
mi tamaño! Pensó David.
As David neared the army
camp he could hear loud voices
and the clanging of armor. He
climbed a nearby hill to see what
all the commotion was about.
David’s eyes widened as he
looked over towards the Philistine
army camp and saw a huge
Philistine giant! “Wow! He must be
at least twice my size!” David
thought.

5. Entonces el gigante Goliat
gritó a voz en cuello: “¡Manden
un hombre que pelee conmigo!
Si me derrota seremos sus
siervos. Si yo lo mato, ¡ustedes
serán nuestros siervos!”
No hubo respuesta del
campamento israelita. Todos
temían desafiar al poderoso
gigante Goliat.
Just then the giant Goliath
started shouting at the top of his
voice. “Send out a man to fight
me, one on one! If he defeats me,
then we will be your servants. But
if I kill him, then you will be our
servants! Ha ha ha ha ha!”
There was no answer from the
Israelite camp. Everyone was
afraid to challenge the mighty
Goliath.

6. “¡Peleare contra Goliat!” –
David dijo a sus hermanos y a
los otros soldados.
Los soldados la llevaron al
rey Saúl, el jefe de su ejército.
Al principio a Saúl no le gustó
la idea, pero David dijo: “Dios
me ayudó a matar animales
salvajes que trataron atacar a
mis ovejas. Él me ayudará a
derrotar a este gigante filisteo.”
“I’ll fight Goliath!” David said to
his brothers and the other
soldiers.
The soldiers brought him to
King Saul, the head of the army.
Saul did not like the idea at
first, but David said, “God has
helped me to kill wild animals who
tried to attack my sheep. I know
that He will help me now to also
defeat this Philistine giant.”

7. El rey Saúl ofreció a David su
armadura y espada. Pero la
armadura era tan pesada que
casi no podía moverse.
“No necesito la armadura ni la
espada” –dijo David-. “Dios me
ayudará a ganar esta batalla.”
Con solo su honda en la mano
y cinco piedras lisas en el bolsillo,
David partió al campo de batalla
a ver a Goliat.
King Saul offered David his
armor and his sword. But it was so
heavy that he could hardly move it.
“I don’t need this armor or
sword,” David said. “God will help
me to win this battle.”
With only his sling in his hand,
and five smooth stones in his
pocket, David went out onto the
battlefield to meet Goliath.

8. Goliat se rio cuando vio venir
a David. Pensó que ganaría
fácilmente la pelea.
David pidió ayuda a Dios, y
luego corrió hacia Goliat. Hizo girar
la honda, más y más rápido, hasta
que finalmente lanzó de la honda
una piedra lisa. Voló por el campo
hasta golpear a Goliat en la frente.
¡El gigante cayó! Goliat estaba
muerto; ¡derrotado por un pequeño
pastor!
Goliath laughed when he saw
David coming. Goliath thought this
was a fight he could easily win.
David called out to God for help.
Then he swung his sling around,
faster and faster, until a smooth stone
went flying out. It flew across the field
and hit Goliath’s forehead. Down the
giant fell! Goliath was dead –
defeated by a small shepherd boy!

9. Los soldados filisteos dejaron sus
armas y corrieron lo más rápido que
podían para alejarse del campo de
batalla. Los soldados israelitas los
persiguieron, ¡y salieron victoriosos!
Todo gracias al pequeño David, su
valentía, fe y confianza en Dios.
David amó a Dios y lo obedeció. Y
muchos años después, tras la muerte
del rey Saúl, ¡David fue el siguiente rey
de Israel!
The Philistine soldiers dropped their
weapons and began to run as fast as they
could away from the battlefield. The
Israelite soldiers chased them, and were
victorious! – All because of little David, his
bravery and his faith and trust in God.
David continued to love God and follow
His ways. And many years later, after King
Saul died, David became the next king of
Israel!

10. David gobernó Israel por mucho
tiempo y enseñó a la gente a amar a
Dios y a servirle.
David escribió muchos cantos de
oración y alabanza a Dios, llamados
Salmos, que están en la Biblia. Esos
cantos nos recuerdan que no importa
quiénes seamos, a dónde vayamos o
que hagamos, Dios nos tiene un amor
muy especial.
David ruled Israel for a very long
time, and taught the people to love
God and serve Him.
David also wrote many songs of
prayer and praise to God, called
psalms, which are recorded in the
Bible. These songs are a reminder that
no matter who we are, where we go or
what we do, God loves each one of us
in a very special way.
