Notas del editor
Start program with asking the audience what they want to know……………. Note on flip chart! Refer back to flip chart as we address certain points. Maybe a good idea to have a flip chart for parent responses and for students? Compare and contrast? Just like you wouldn’t buy an expensive dress or suit without trying it on, why would you select a college without checking it out?
The graph covers info from DEC 2007 through FEB 2012. Blue line shows those with only a high school degree – they have lost a lot of jobs and it has not recovered. Associates degree holders have lost a lot of jobs but it has finally worked its way back to what it was. For those with a bachelor’s degree, there were some minor losses that have since been regained AND additional jobs have been added.
Whether in good economic times or poor times – a degree is still worth it!
Discussion points of “ not sure” use college counseling office –1st year can be a lot of general classes – major can be easily changes – most students actually do change their major
compare to purchasing a car = you would look at mpg, # of passengers, resale value) You wouldn’t buy a Mini Cooper for a family of 5 or 6, would you?

“the type of friends” question is to lead into the conversation about surrounding yourself with others who want to be successful.
From the FAFSA website, different degrees of selectivity which can correlate with graduation rates
ECC – anyone can try – gives everyone an opportunity, FAFSA website is the source
3 examples of FOR PROFIT schools, private but not for profit – Judson -, and PUBLIC

Where you can look to search this info for yourself – ask audience for a college name to show the search process
