6. ◼With affirmative commands, ATTACH the
pronouns to the end of the command.
Poner la mesa: Poner = pon
La mesa = la
However, it can never be that easy in Spanish!
There are some commands that add a written
accent on the verb to keep the stress in the same
place.
AFFIRMATIVE = ATTACHED
¡Ponla!

7. ◼An accent is added if there are at least 3 syllables in the
command after the pronouns are added.
◼¡Hazla! (Do it!)
NO ACCENT, there are only 2 syllables.
◼¡Patina! (Skate!)
NO ACCENT, while there are 3 syllables, there are no
pronouns.
◼¡Lávala! (Wash it!)
ACCENT, there 3 syllables AFTER the pronoun “la” is
added.
WHEN TO USE AN ACCENT

8. ◼The accent will ALWAYS fall on the verb over the 2nd to last
syllable.
Ayudar a mí.
Ayudame = A – yu – da = ¡Ayúdame!
Lavar el coche.
Lavalo = La – va = ¡Lávalo!
◼If there are two vowels together, the accent will fall over the
strong vowel.
Strong Vowels: a, e, o
Weak Vowels: u, i (U and I are weak.
But I am stronger than
U)
